Created in 1939 as a non-profit organization, USA Water Ski promotes water skiing in the United States. Affiliated with the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (world governing body) and recognized by the United States Olympic Committee and Pan-American Sports Organization, USA Water Ski governs nine sport disciplines, including:
JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY
The primary focus of this internship is to support and assist in the efforts of three major areas of USA Water Ski:
1. Marketing and communicating the organization’s assets to members and partners.
2. Marketing program development initiatives aimed at growing member base.
3. Marketing and promoting USA WS sanctioned events.
The Intern (s) will assist with research and development of events within all 9 disciplines, work with existing programs, research and development of new initiatives, provide customer service to the community, and other tasks that contribute to the growth of USA-WS membership base in the United States. For the right candidate (s), there is the opportunity to work in the development of social media platforms.

• Learn how a small not-for-profit NGB operates and manages its affairs.
• Assist in developing skills in event management, administration, marketing, and social media.
• Assist with development and distribution of nationally distributed materials.
• Gain knowledge of sports program management at both the national, regional, and local levels.
• Access to professionals in the areas of marketing, communication, events, development, finance, HR, and fundraising.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provide support for the marketing, communications, membership, program development and event staff in the development and management of events such as tournaments, camps, clinics, and educator workshops.
• Assist in the creation of marketing materials.
• Assist in the creation of promotional materials for new member outreach.
• Assist in the creation of materials and kits for the collegiate sport division.
• Assist in the creation of other development materials used by coaches, members and volunteers to start new programs and improve those already in existence.
• Assist in the growth of USA-WS’ presence through social networking (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.).
• Provide support with office administrative tasks.
• Respond to membership inquiries and provide information and resources as requested.
• Other duties as assigned
Percentage of duties:
25%- Customer service by, email, phone and in person contact
40%- Social media, marketing and mass communication development
15%- Event and initiative support
20%- All other duties assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
This marketing communications internship is expected to start in January 2014 and continue through May 2014. Interns must be attending a US College or University and be eligible to receive college credit, or be satisfying an academic requirement for their degree, in order to be considered. This is a part-time internship at 20 hours per week. Actual start and end dates are flexible. Business marketing, communications, public relations and sports management majors encouraged to apply. We will consider other majors with strong sports and non-profit experience and interest.
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT:
• Standard Office Equipment
• Microsoft Applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook
• Proficiency with internet search capabilities and usage telecommunications equipment, fax machine, copier
• Proficiency with modern-day social media channels: Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Vine, etc.
CONDITIONS:
• Office environment, single story on a lake
• 10 full time employees
• Work schedule is flexible with a minimum of 20 hours per week required.
• Assisting with some weekend events is required
• This is an unpaid internship
