Happy to mold my passion for the water with my BA in Sports Management, I am Britt Hoyland, the Director of Competition and Events at USA Water Ski. January will mark my first year working for headquarters and it was a great year filled with learning and experience. Coming from the surf industry and growing up on the coast of North Carolina, I was shocked to find an entirely new world of life on the water beyond salt water.
My goal is to encourage other water sports enthusiasts, like myself, to fall in love with this world behind a boat. Overseeing all competition aspects for the nine sport disciplines under the USA Water Ski umbrella, I serve as the primary staff liaison for all club programs, sanctioning and events. I am working with USA-WS national tournament organizers to support the creation and delivery of programs for the development of all of our water sports from amateur competitions to pro events.
Prior to joining USA Water Ski, I worked for the United States Surfing Federation and Florida Surfing Association, staging various events from professional to non-profit and community-outreach initiatives. As Contest Director, I have worked closely with a number of clients including the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP), Meredith Corporation, IMG, Rip Curl, Quiksilver, Vans, Hype Promotions and Brillo Productions. I have extensive experience working and growing programs for non-profit organizations such as the Special Olympics, Wounded Warrior Project and Florida School for the Deaf and Blind. Having directed large scale events with 1,000+ competitors and 100,000+ spectators, I believe I am capable of not only bringing water skiing and our other sport disciplines back into the media's eye; but also creating the festival atmosphere that will showcase our sport's the true athletic talents.
In 2014, USA Water Ski will be celebrating our 75th year of being on the water. This year not only honors the true accomplishments and history of the sport, but also opens doors for celebrating the next generation of water skiing. I am happy to provide to our members, clubs, and tournament organizers with the tools or ideas for staging unforgettable events, while building close relationships with our cities and sports commissions. Feel free to contact me at bhoyland@usawaterski.org or on my direct line 863-508-2093.
Looking forward to another great year on the water!
