Registration is almost full for the Mystic Waters Ski and Skeet Pro-Am August 23 tournament on USA Water Ski, under Mystic Waters Ski and Skeet. Our primary goal for this tournament is to promote water skiing as a fun and healthy sport%E2%80%A6and to have FUN! This event has three components: the water ski tournament, the shooting tournament and a huge Health, Wellness and Art Festival. The Pro-Am consists of a pro skier paired with an amateur for a combined skiing/shooting score. We have designed a handicapping system that evens the playing field in the Pro-Am, even for beginners just learning to go around the buoys.

Hosted by the Lake Norman Ski Club, the ski tournament is a cash prize event with the best drivers, including Tommy Harrington Chief Driver, Chris Eller and Jeff Gilbert. We have a total %247,000 purse, divided with %243,000 to Open Men top three places, %243,000 Open Women top three places and %241,000 Pro Am team (only first place team wins cash). MasterCraft, Nautique and Centurion will pull the tournament. Entries are limited and we already have a number of pros signed up. Entry fee is %24150 for the ski tournament and %2450 for the skeet tournament, and we are limited to 30 entries. Entry fee includes free lodging in a rustic cabin on-site, two meals and a sponsors t-shirt.

Mystic Waters is a unique ski site. In the mountains of North Carolina, it has a huge slanted lawn and shaded areas for excellent viewing of the lake. It is a former Girl Scout Camp, so it includes infrastructure, including a Pavilion overlooking the lake, an air-conditioned retreat center for skiers and sponsors, bathrooms and the cabins, plus beautiful mountain hiking trails. The Health, Wellness and Art fair will include massage therapy, laser treatments, chiropractic adjustments and acupuncture on-site, live music, a variety of sponsors and some fabulous local art. We will also have demonstrations by the A-Lure/Dirty Dancing Dancers, the Lake Lure Cloggers, a professional fly fisherman and tai chi. While in a secluded area, Mystic Waters is behind a full grocery store and minutes from restaurants, local shopping and Lake Lure, a 750 acre lake. This event is being promoted in Charlotte, Asheville, Hendersonville, Boone, Greenville and Spartanburg in SC and of course, Lake Lure. We have received press in many news outlets, and are expecting a large crowd for this inaugural event.

Saturday night we will have an awards banquet lakeside in the Pavilion with beach music, a campfire and s’mores, followed by a catered breakfast Sunday morning.

Dan Schindler of the Paragon School of Shooting is running the shooting tournament. Professional instruction and guidance will be provided so that even people who have never fired a gun will be able to compete in the shooting event.

Our goal is to have roughly half Pros and half amateurs to make this a fun event that hooks more skiers on the sport, and exposes water skiing to a large crowd.
The lake will be open for practice on Friday and we will have a Funday on Sunday, with several pros already agreeing to stay and give lessons to those who sign up on Saturday.

We have a couple of more slots to fill. If you are interested in signing up, please contact Lynn Carnes at lcarnes@carnesassociates.com.

Whether as a skier or a spectator, we really hope you can make it!
