Off-seasons, although necessary and certainly well deserved, aren't automatically a vacation for those looking to return strong and optimized in the spring. Some use the time to give their aching bodies rest to start fresh while others look to bulk up to gain muscle and bolster strength. Some cut out off-seasons all together by switching hemispheres in order to chase summer conditions. We asked top pro Will Asher, who's enjoyed consistent year-to-year success with minimal slumps and injury, for a peek into his offseason mindset.

Does your gym training increase in the offseason?

WA: Generally, I focus more in the gym during the winter, although this year's off season was very short (with Worlds being in November/December, then straight back into skiing for Acapulco and Moomba in February/ March).

Do you do any other activities besides gym-training in the offseason?

WA: I enjoy doing all kinds of Activities besides the gym. I love to bike and run, I love swimming, surfing, playing in the ocean. Anything outside, I'm game. I tailor my workouts to always be fun and challenging.

Does your diet change? How so?

WA: My diet doesn't really change. My Wife and I love to cook in the house and try new recipes. Mostly I try to eat clean, natural foods (nothing from packages).

What's the most important thing you think of/stand by in the spring when getting back into the season?
