Team GOODE takes half of all slalom medals at 2013 Worlds

 Team GOODE won half of all slalom medals awarded at the 2013 Water Ski World Championships as the tournament concluded today in San Bernardo, Chile.

Leading the way for Team GOODE was Regina Jaquess, who took the gold in Women’s slalom to cap one of the greatest two-year runs the sport has ever seen. She has not lost a slalom tournament since March of 2012, a streak that includes victories at the Masters, Malibu Open, World Games, a slew of professional tournaments, and now the Worlds.

She scored 1 buoy at 41-feet off in the final round to earn the title over second-place finisher Whitney McClintock, who scored 4 at 39-1/2 off. Clementine Lucine (2 at 39) earned the bronze and April Coble-Eller (0.5 at 39) finished fourth, giving Team GOODE three of the top-four spots in Women’s slalom. In Men’s slalom rising-star Freddie Winter gave Team GOODE its third slalom medal of the championships by taking bronze. Freddie tied Will Asher and Stephen Neveu for second place with 3 at 41 off, but Will was awarded second based on preliminary round scores and Freddie topped Stephen in a run off for the final podium spot. The bronze medal completed a big year for Freddie, who has emerged as a top-level threat within the pro ranks. He fished second at the European Championships (after a run off for first), sixth at the Diablo Shores Pro-Am and scored a new PB of 5 buoys at 41-feet off at the GOODE Bracket Challenge in September. It was Freddie’s first time competing in the World Championships.

Defending and two-time World Champion Thomas DeGasperi finished fifth, a remarkable fourth-straight Worlds he’s has a top-five finish.

Team GOODE continued to rack up the medals in overall as Regina edged Whitney McClintock for her third career (2003 and 2005) World overall gold and Clementine taking the bronze. GOODE skier Javier Julio earned the silver in Men’s overall.

In the team competition, the United States took the gold, with Canada and France finishing second and third, respectively.
