    Hello, ski world!

I am Taryn Garland, the new Program Development Coordinator at USA Water Ski. I want to properly introduce myself, as it is my goal to build strong relationships with our members and potential members so that I can best support you.

I am originally from Madison, Wis., and was an active member of the Mad-City Ski Team for 11 years. During my time on the team, I learned early on that the water-skiing community is one full of dedicated, passionate people that go above and beyond for a sport that they love. Being a part of this community is a unique experience and as they say, “From the outside looking in, you can never understand it. From the inside looking out, you can never explain it.” I am grateful for having experienced life on the inside.

In addition to my time as a show skier, I attended the University of Wisconsin (GO BADGERS!) where I studied Spanish and Mathematics. I spent two years traveling around the Midwest as a singer/dancer with the Wisconsin Singers and took a leap outside of my comfort zone through a year living abroad in Madrid, Spain. Upon graduating from UW, I moved to central Florida and served as an AmeriCorps volunteer for two years and later became a high school Math and Spanish teacher. My life has not taken a linear path, but it has provided me with an array of opportunities that has led me to this position with USA Water Ski. Through my experience in program development, education and over a decade in the show skiing world, I am committed to growing the education and developmental programs of USA Water Ski.

This position is brand new to USA Water Ski and my responsibilities are:

♦ Serve as the primary liaison for the National Show Ski Association

♦ Create, improve and administer introductory and developmental programs, such as the “Get on the Water!” Program (Formally, Basic Skills Challenge Series and the Grassroots Program)

♦ Collaborate with USA Water Ski’s Director of Competition & Events and with the Director of Marketing & Partnerships

♦ Lead initiatives on developing and producing USA-WS merchandise, apparel and introducing new assets

In short, my job is to develop new tools and programs to grow and support people who love to be on the water; my job is to help you.

As a former show skier, my experience will contribute to how I navigate through my responsibilities; however, I think it is most important that I gather as much perspective from the experts on the front lines: you! Please do not hesitate to contact me for any reason. I’d love to hear your comments and suggestions as I continue to move forward with junior development programs, collegiate growth programs, membership outreach and more.

I am thrilled to be taking on this position with USA Water Ski and am looking forward to the progress and success that we can achieve together.

    To the beach!

    Taryn Garland
