Baller bhs Posted March 16, 2012 Baller Share Posted March 16, 2012 Maybe this has been posted before. If not I found this article from 1980 on the La Points. Page 4 has a discussion on how much they earned from winning tournaments in the 70's. Not a lot. I found this interesting considering recent threads on the state of money in Pro tournaments. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1123487/1/index.htm

Baller otisg Posted March 17, 2012 Baller Share Posted March 17, 2012 The first step to becoming as good a slalom skier as Kris LaPoint is, is to own a Catfish Farm. It is an interesting coincidence that I just happen to have one for sale in NW Alabama........... 45 acres, very low taxes.

Baller greghayes Posted March 18, 2012 Baller Share Posted March 18, 2012 This was a great find @bhs - thank you for posting. It really got me thinking that even in the "golden age" of waterskiing, it was only through hard work, ingenuity and being scrappy that you could eek out a living and practice this sport full-time. The LaPoints are an inspiration - original west coast style with athlete/entrepreneurs!
