The 2017 Malibu Open has been rescheduled for the weekend of September 29-30 at Trophy Lakes Sports in John's Island, South Carolina, just outside Charleston. Trophy Lakes boasts a world-class slalom course and promises to be an ideal location for the long-running skiing championship.

Originally scheduled for this weekend at Veterans Park in Milwaukee, Wis., the discovery of a blue algae bloom led the Milwaukee Health Department to cancel all activity on the Milwaukee Lagoon due to health and safety concerns.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. For more details, please visit www.malibuopenfestival.com.

Glad it got rescheduled. Family went to Milwaukee anyway for a little getaway and we stopped by the lagoon. Honestly the water was very greenish/blue and smelled pretty bad. So I can see why the city pulled the permit, too bad they weren't able to mitigate it beforehand. I'm sure they will have something in place for next year.

I won't be able to get down to SC but am sure the folks that can go will have a great time. Enjoy!

Blue-green algae is becoming a pretty serious problem. We've had our lake shut down a few times because of dangerous blooms. Even when the blooms prove to be nontoxic, the process of water testing and communication and dealing with concerned (and sometimes angry) residents is taxing.

Anyone have experience with this problem?
