92 205 Questions

Ballers- after many months, a couple of stalled out deals, we finally found a 92 PS 205. Just spent 10 days in Northern Wisconsin...skied the whole bunch and had an absolute blast. Loved the power and ease of getting everyone up and out of the water.

 

I have 2 questions:

1) the seats seam to hold water weight after the week of skiing (currently pulled ‘em all out and drying them out) ... is there a better way to curb that type of water weight in older seats?

2) the board behind the motor needs to be replaced (seems like its fiberglass and might have broken on a end of run-kid jumping off the seat back by the previous owner. Would you replace that with wood or find the proper fiberglass piece from MC? Does that even exist?

Water management as suggested above. Make sure people have towels.

 

That floor piece is a common part to wear out. On the cheap people replace with marine plywood. The OEM material is a honeycomb aluminum that is sold in sheets. Expensive but strong, light, and as it was made from the factory. Some good dealers have sources for the aluminum floor material.

1. Towels, + have people dry off on platform for 10-30 sec instead Of just piling back into boat with wet suit and life jacket all dripping wet...

 

2. Do you have back seat in boat?

as stayed, it is honeycomb aluminum. Strong until it breaks or degrades. Usually starts going bad at the motor box hinges since they didn’t install big washers or thicker plate there.

If your back seat is in, you can cheat and spin the piece 180 degrees and put the crappy part under the seat.... if seat is out, May still work to spin depending on how bad it is. If you do this, add washers or thin aluminum plate underneath where the motor box hinges go.

 

Dealer or online to replace original material.

Or marine plywood. Some coat it with resin to seal it.
