  1. Update! I did indeed stop by there on Friday and talked to the guys skiing out there! Ended up not taking my ski along so I didn't get to ski but it was nice to see the site and meet a few people. Everyone seemed to be really nice. If I am ever back up that way again I'll be sure to bring my gear!
  2. Hey guys!

I'm planning on visiting Chattanooga this Friday and Saturday (10/14-10/15). I was thinking about stopping by No Wake Lake to check it out, and maybe take a set if that's possible! Does anyone on here ski there? Even if I can't take a set I'd still like to learn more about lake membership, etc.

    Thanks,

    Susan

  3. I've got a friend who is learning to ski the course, she just started this past summer. She's hooked on skiing and has decided to get her own slalom ski! I know a little about skis but I figured I'd better ask you guys for recommendations before I tried to give anyone else advice. She's about 130 lbs, 5'4"-5'5", so I was thinking a 65" would be about right. Any make/model recommendations?
  4. I bought an Eagle vest recently and was very pleased with it for the first week or so... and then all the stitching started coming out! I've tried tying the loose ends together but that hasn't helped. Furthermore, it's not just one section, it's the whole jacket. I tried calling Eagle about it but the line immediately goes to the busy signal every time I call (weird, huh?). Has anyone else had this problem recently?
  5. I'm looking to work at a ski school next summer, but I am not a great skier (one day...). I have lots of experience with kids and some retail experience, but that's about all I have to offer in the way of ski schools. I'm also not afraid to work hard, I will do anything to have a place to train for the summer! I'm currently trying to learn how to drive the course as well but that has been slow going as I do not have a ski course (I ski with friends that live on a ski lake). Anyone have any advice or ski school recommendations?
  6. Hey guys,

So, I bought a O'Neill Gem size 6 vest back in March, and now it is magically too big. (Wait, what? Too big? Yeah, I know.) Anyways, I am looking to buy an Eagle vest now, but I am leery of trusting the size charts and I don't have anyone else's nearby to try on. My measurements are chest 32-33' and waist 26-27"; I'm 5'8" and about 130ish lbs. I'm thinking a small, but I'm not sure how much they stretch and I prefer my jackets as tight as possible. Anyone have any advice? Also, if anyone wants to buy a turquoise O'Neill Gem size 6 vest, I'm your girl...

  7. I ski on a 65" D3 Quest 45 with a Wiley front binding and a RTP (I am about 130lbs). I know for a fact that my ski rides way too far back in the water. This definitely has a lot to do with my tendency to ride on my back foot, which I am working on but progress is slow so far! Would it be a good idea to move my front binding forward slightly to help correct the issue or is that considered "cheating"? (note: I don't usually mess with my bindings and fin due to lack of experience but I'm willing to learn and I'm around lots of people who can fix any setting mistakes I make.)
  8. @MISkier I don't quite understand how the 8-buoy course works but I think I see what you're getting at! It gives you more set up time, right? Anyways, I'll try to stick with a 6-buoy if possible! As far as other lakes, I found one in Nicholson GA (about 20 mins from Athens) but I'm not sure if it's the right size/shape or if I could get access. I will have to contact the owner if I can track them down.

Here's a picture of it with coordinates.

  9. @MISkier , I did some research on that small lake you showed me. It is part of a 588 acre tract of "agricultural" preserve land. I believe it is owned by the govt or the corps, I'm not sure. Unfortunately, it is almost as far from Athens (time wise) as the other lake, so I'm not sure its location would be much of an advantage.
  10. It's lake Strom Thurmond aka Clark's hill lake. It's on the border between SC and Georgia. Luckily, we are on a small finger of the lake so it is fairly protected and not too busy there. Unfortunately the lake is not at a constant level since the corps use it for electricity production and whatnot. It's generally pretty full during spring and summer but they empty it significantly in the fall and winter. I'd say the part of the lake we are on is about 15-20 feet deep, with a shallower cove in the back.
  11. Hey everyone! I'm looking into setting up a course on our public lake. We have permission from the Corps (who own the lake) to do it, but that's about as far as we've gotten. What are some relatively inexpensive systems that are good to use on a public lake? Bouys? We haven't set up a course before so I could use some advice! I definitely don't want to set up a course improperly and put anyone at risk of serious injury. In addition, what should we look for in a specific location on the lake to place it?
