  1. Another boat in my lake was stumbling and popping. He started replacing parts. Three seasons later he had a specialist come out to the lake and it was timing all along. They couldn’t have learned that without plugging the motor in for diagnostics. He replaced a ton of parts trying to chase the problem.

    Just timing. Just a thought.

  2. Malibu sucks. I purchased a custom ordered 2017 txi 6L. I battled it’s power issues with dealer and factory for 3 years! I would call, a Malibu rep would tell me they would take care of me and tell me Dennis kelly would call me or e mail me shortly to start figuring things out. Wow, I believed them. Months after not hearing anything, I would reach out to Malibu again to find out the rep I spoke to doesn’t exist...according to Malibu. I went through this 3 different times with three different reps. Their e mail accounts deleted and don’t exist after I have a record of them. The shit is crazy!! So......after 4 years, a new tech at one of the local dealers agreed to go through my whole engine. He found a faulty corroded part that was over fueling the engine causing it to lose power. So, since day one. Not one hour on the boat. It was a piece of shit out of the hole, that I ran about 10 different props on. Malibu wouldn’t believe it had an issue. WTF!

After 3 years of a brand new boat not running properly, I still didn’t get anywhere with MALIBU. The final bummer.... the part was replaced but required other associated parts to be replaced also. Did Malibu cover the cost of the faulty parts over 3 flipping years!!!?

NO THEY DID NOT. 2017 Malibu txi 6L was the most disappointing purchase I have ever made. Along with the most disappointing factory/dealer backing. Way to go Malibu!

  3. @GregHind I believe you are seeing ski ropes that are coiled up on the floor. You see them because @jstaab3 cut out the black baffle behind the billet aluminum piece on back of motor box . With the motor box all the way open, that vent rests on the floor which is where the ropes are seen.
  4. So,.....how long until there is a fix malibu?

How long until Malibu reaches out to brand new boat owners to inform them of a situation that shouldn’t be? It’s been two seasons now that I wasted about 20 boat hours testing props that still isn’t sorted. Wasted gallons of gas along with the hours on the boat. Not to mention numerous warranty issues that stem from quality control at factory. I do understand it is a new model year boat but wtf?

    Blue tooth doesn’t work properly

Over spray and defects on gel coat when it first arrived (dealer fixed)

Ski locker doesn’t drain out creating a super stinky fowl gross area in no time.

Engine cover lifter brackets have screws stripped and falls off

Jump wire harness too short, doesn’t reach bracket it is supposed to be mounted to.

Hole on passenger side bin was cut too large and mounting screws were drilled into air creating bad vibration noise

Rear bins above gas tank never fit, had dealer fix.......they still don’t fit right

Compartment to access rudder and drive shaft has stripped screws and can feel it moving under feet when on it.

Rub rail was worst I’ve ever seen on new boat from factory(dealer fixed)

    WORST PART

    engine doesn’t run properly

    Is this normal? Crazy! Huh?

  5. Would be nice if Malibu chimed in and somehow gave boat schematics, to find best way to get clean air to motor. I can see the inlet air hose behind passenger seat. If the fan was installed inline at that location would it suck clean air in and push it to the motor?
  6. Do any other 17/18 response owners have performance issues? I have been prop hunting since I bought the boat and think I have figured out why I can’t land on one. My boat noticeably loses power as the temp changes. It feels like it is losing as much as 20% from a morning set to an afternoon set when temp has increased 15-20 degrees. I have never experienced this on any previous boat I have owned. I know there is some power loss with temp, but it seems like too much. I have gotten many complaints from women about hole shot power. Every other boat on my lake has more power along with a nautique 200 with the same engine. If I took this boat up to some of the high lakes in my area I’m afraid it would barely get on plane! I Have tried every prop acme has sent and every prop OJ recommended. One prop gives decent hole shot but puts rpms too high and another struggles to pull a skier around turn island above 23mph at WOT. My dealer hasn’t been much help. They are obviously focused on surf and wake boats. Don’t really care about one ski boat vs 100 surf/wake boats. If I had known the frustrations that came with my new super expensive 2017 malibu response txi I would still be in my 2011 prostar 197. Any help would be great.
  7. @Nikki1116 I was just there, would have been happy to pull you. I ran into a few passionate skiers while out on the water.

Reach out to anyone with a ski boat that doesn’t have a roll bar and I’m sure they would be stoked to pull you.

  8. @Ed_Johnson there are two lakes in our area. The one you see on satellite just south of Bellevue is called mgm. Whole thing is for sale right now for 3 million I think. I am at the black butte ranch that is another 40 mins south.

400 acre shared property with two lakes on it, watered moto track. It is AWSOME!! It has lots for sale around $80k ish. Hit me up if you want to know more.

  9. @OscawanaSkier I would suggest the 525 or the 337. I am at 4000’ and every skier on my lake likes the OJ337 best for skiability. It is a little better hole shot than 525 but has a softer feel to it when boat is gassing in the course.

After trying numerous props, I’ve found that 3700/3800 rpms at 34.2mph is best for a solid feeling pull that isn’t too firm on the 6L 17/18

    TXI

  10. Update- new OJ 337 13x10 prop is best so far on my 2017 txi 6L at 4500-5000’ elevation.

    WOT RPMS-5400

    34mph rpms-4600

    Top speed 39.5mph

    Hole shot improved

Holding speed around turn island improved

    Skiers like it.

    Drivers like it.

  11. So.... according to engine specs of 6 liter monsoon on my 2017 txi. Max recommended rpm is 5500 @ WOT. Acme 653 13x11.5—WOT=5200rpm @42mph (best so far)

New OJ ski pro 13x11–WOT=4870 @41mph

    I’ll test 525 again tomorrow @greghayes

@""Alberto Soares" I’m thinking that will,be my next try

  12. More prop testing. I have still not got the prop right. Acme 653 has been the best so far but still getting complaints about hole shot power compared to any other boat on the lake. I could pull the arms off someone with my previous boat with a smaller engine(2011 prostar 5.7 liter.) I called OJ PROPS and Eric said he has been working with malibu directly and have just cut some new props designed for new txi. I hope this solves the problem of my new $$$$$$$$ boat and its poor power issues. Might not have upgraded had I known this new boat would struggle to pull up my 135lb wife.
  13. @MickeyThompson I just started skiing the xtr. I couldn’t ski it at stock settings. I ended up moving the bindings 3/8” forward of stock in 1/8” increments. It is skiing much much better for me over stock binding #s.
