  1. Hi guys.

Want to get opinions from the Ballers.

I can pick up a 68 Ski Nautique for around $500.

It isn't in great condition and not completely original, but I still think could be a great and nostalgic project boat.

I would strip the tower, make a teak platform and then try get the rest of it as close to original as possible.

Question is... what do u guys think am I wasting my time or worth a shot?

  2. Hi Phillipe,

I propped the boat with a ACME 537, but note I have the ZR409 engine and run at altitude- 6000ft.

At 52kph and up and the shorter lines the Hydrogate definitely makes a difference if engaged, though I find at slower speeds, for my little guys I leave it off as the bump is softer.

To be sure, I played with weights from 30 to 100kg up front and for me at least none improved the wake.

The nature of the v drive and engine way back will make the boat sit differently albeit the same hull shape as the 200. Problem is chucking weight forward just makes the whole boat run deeper even if flatter.

enjoy the boat i love mine

    my 2 cents

  3. Disclaimer - I'm not a tournament skier more aggressive open water for what its worth.

So I also have a Sport 200 V. We ski at altitude so i changed the standard prop for better pull off and it changed the experienced and the wake softened.

I have played with weight forward but to me it didn't make any difference.

it is a great multisport boat, and perfect for the family needs , surfing, boarding and skiing on the morning glass.

Is it going to give you a DD wake? no and I don't think any mod or weight change will make a difference. Is it a great cross over ? Absolutely.

We are lucky to have a old school 92 Brindella which is just ridiculous to ski behind by comparison.

If you can , i agree with DvSkier, buy a old school DD for your slalom and enjoy the 200 for the family .

For interest, a pic of wake at 55kph

  4. Reading @Than_Bogan thread on less options being better got me thinking.

and Than I think I agree simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, if a single whip is actually possible to be designed to suit all riders and their respective styles I don't know.

Disclaimer, I'm no way qualified to make any meaningful judgement or opinion on the matter but it did make me think...

At risk of a Panda, are the new skis every year that much better? or are they as good as previous years but with handling and ride characteristics changing as a result of the design, bevel, rocker etc.

What I mean is hypothetically as an example maybe the design of the 2020 Vapor Pro suited my style perfectly, but changes for '21 don't necessarily make the ski better for me if the design changes the way the skid rides , but it may be better suited to someone with a different style and need.

For me in fact it might be less suited than the previous version. But ultimately their customer base can grow as new skiers are better suited can now demo and for them hopefully move across.

( this obviously ignores manufacture material and process and is just taking design into account)

As I said I'm no where qualified to make the assumption so I'm more assign fro general inputs and thoughts on this?

  5. I use small anti -humidity boxes from the local store. They made for damp int he house and cupboards.

It has chemical balls in it which attract and absorb the moisture front he surrounds into a container .

I permanently leave 2 in the boat and it dries it out perfectly when forced to pack away and cover wetter than i would like... Works incredibly well

  6. Hey @ShaunT ,

I wish i could, there are no dealers offering demos down in South Africa, so need to buy "blind" which is tough.

Was almost hoping Stadlbauer had broken the record on the Omega to give it some credence

Must say though the local Radar dealer service is fantastic and HO difficult to get hold of , so for that reason leaning Vapor...

@ballsohard agree, would be intrigued to see the results/ improvements of the new enhancements in 2020 from rider feedback.

    Thanks fro the feedback guys

  7.

FWIW I have a Sport Nautique 200 , and while its a bit shorter than u looking for I must say as a cross over it does the job.

Wake is not as good as an all out Ski boat DD but its not bad either.

Does the Wakeboarding and surfing too.
