No one suggesting you need eyeTrick to ski @Jody_Seal . But if you want to make an incredible event more interesting and relevant to skiing and non-skiing spectators alike then we need to do something about how we judge it. Or maybe you think there is nothing wrong with how we market trick skiing. In which case I will respectfully disagree with you.

More judges, better judges, happier judges = happier skiers.

@RAWSki for test and development we have worked with remote judges so it is possible but has its challenges. The current version of eyeTrick is very much a base that will allow the trick world to build out lots of exciting new developments.

eyeTrick is the result of ten years work creating a system to make trick judging faster, more accurate, more consistent and more transparent.

Live video from the boat (or memory cards if that's the way you do it) goes to the eyeTrick server from where three or five judges each control their own video stream using a tablet.

A predictive system presents the judge with the most likely next tricks based on what the skier has done - making it extremely fast for each judge to enter the run on their tablet.The full pass is reviewed by each judge and the system reconciles all the judges passes to produce a final scored run before the skier is ready to come back for the second pass.

Data is sent in realtime to the eyeTrick Mobile App or a webcast so anyone can see the pass building as the skier goes down the lake!

Feedback has been amazing from judges, skiers and of course the spectators.

The American Open was the first test event for the new eyeTrick system from SplashEye. Designed to give live, accurate and consistent trick scores. Three judges use tablets to score the tricks , producing fully scored and reconciled passes while the skier is still in the water at the end of the lake. Unfortunately some hardware problems prevented the scores going live onto the webcast on Sunday afternoon but it was nonetheless a great weekend for the system. Windshield mounted Raspberry Pi based, 1080p, 60 frames per second tracker. Optical zoom so the skier is a good size in the picture. Tracks and follows the skier based on full-body tracking (face recognition doesn't work in this environment). GPS start/stop for each pass. Instant review by WiFi at end of the pass or individual files available for download. Automatic link to scoring system.

Originally designed to allow Trick/Slalom video in a covid world where we can't have three people in the boat

Needs a bit of work to finish it and it's been bumped by other projects.

Just a reminder that the analysis @AdamCord posted can be done in about 15 seconds after each pass using standard end-course camera setup and a $200 usb video capture dongle that you may already have for SplashEye Jump. I wholeheartedly agree with @bishop8950 about the need for improved education of all officials regarding boat paths. It should be specifically discussed at clinics and seminars to demonstrate what a small movement is, what a big movement is, what a deliberate movement is.....

It sounds obvious but in reality it takes knowledge, practice and experience.

 

And we already have technology available that can solve this nonsense overnight.

 

For $200 on a video capture device and free software the appointed end-course monitoring official can click a few buttons on SplashEyeDrive and have a complete deviation report 10 seconds after the pass.

 

For $2000 on a GPS system the driver/judge can have tracking live in the boat.

 

These solutions allow us to deal with the problem at the time. Give the skiers the reride they often deserve, give the Chief Judge/Driver the data they need to properly manage the driving and improve the drivers performance through accurate, immediate and objective feedback.

I imagine they’re going nuts on BallOfRunning or whatever the runners go nuts on.....

After the pass the judge takes 10 seconds to track the boat at each buoy. Simple and quick. Also allows you to open and track end course video files for review/record checking.

After each pass you get video and PDF records of the pass by skier name.

Paid upgrades to automatic tracking coming soon.

 

GPS Tracking is absolutely the future. In the meantime a very small amount of effort allows you to ensure every pass is in tolerance.

@Andre SplashEyeDrive was used at Botaski, San Gervasio and Mapple ProAm to do Live manual tracking. As @klindy says the GPS systems (I have heard there are a few different ones coming out) are nothing to do with SplashEye. No idea on the price points for the GPS systems but I can predict that the FREE SplashEye software will remain the cheapest tracking solution ?

Most of the Elite events in Europe are using the latest SplashEyeDrive software. Allows the judge to manually track the boat and get results after each pass. Takes about 10 seconds and gives a yes/no on buoy and cumulative tolerance. Software is free to download on www.splasheye.com/splasheyedrive

As someone who has run 28 off both LFF and RFF I think I am qualified to say screw statistics. Whatever feels natural for you go for it. I wouldn’t be biasing anyone at the beginning based on a statistical model for which is best. Theoretically interesting maybe but like you say needs someone with lots more time than we have.....

If you look at all the threads on this site over the years you will realize how important the gate turn in is. And we all know that six is just something you need to get around. So gates, 2 and 4 on one side. 1, 3 and 5 on the other. ..... sounds fair to me.

Low cost ($1,000) correcting GPS (using a base station) to sub-inch accuracy has become available. I am testing a prototype at the same time as the final camera based system testing in March. Technology is probably still a year or two away but it will get there. Lots of work to do as well to address concerns like @BraceMaker says. But huge benefits over the current system including live feedback to the driver.
