Phil2360
Bit more from last weekend. Stuck to the front of the ski this time. Would be interested to hear some constructive comment on his skiing even thought this might not be the best viewpoint to be looking at it from. Seems to be stuck in a bit of a groove ATM & marking time. Cheers Phil
Baller Steven_Haines Posted February 15, 2013 Baller Share Posted February 15, 2013 Very nice! My only suggestion would be to study CP's gate and try to keep the arms in tight in your pull out for the gate. Otherwise, great skiing!
Phil2360
Dunno whether it's visible here, but I think his biggest issue in not finishing his turns. Snatching or hooking after the buoy is what I observe a bit from the drivers seat.
dave_n
@Phil2360 Robbie has a lot of good stuff going on there. The only thing he needs to work on right now is his body position behind the boat. @than_bogan has written an excellent paper on skiers' leverage position. Sorry, can't find a link. Maybe Than can point you in the right direction. It's worth reading a few times. Compare Robbie's position crossing the wakes in the clip below to Than's description of what it should look like. Notice the distance between handle and hips. Once Robbie gets stacked he will be using the power of the boat to fire himself across the course instead of getting pulled through it. A lot of other problems, incomplete turns and grabbing the handle with shoulder rotation etc. have a way of disappearing when you get stacked. Use lots of video, or even better IMO, an SLR camera in continuous shooting mode capable of taking at least 3 frames per second, even if you have to reduce the quality of the pictures. Hope this helps.
Baller kmenard Posted February 15, 2013 Baller Share Posted February 15, 2013 I am going to ask this every time...but...which mount? :)
dave_n
@Phil2360 Found that link to Than's paper. Read it and share it. It's good stuff. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oDlyJi8MRdF9t8uQcEMCUEGsivhQ2tP7qOO6HfPgCDg/edit
Phil2360
@kmenard, The first couple were done with a Chest Mount Harness. http://gopro.com/camera-mounts/chest-mount-harness The one above was with a suction cup mount on the nose of the Ski & the camera tilted back a fair bit. http://cbcdn1.gopro.com/uploads/product_photo/image/16125/SuctionCup_683x426a.jpg http://gopro.com/camera-mounts/suction-cup
Baller kmenard Posted February 16, 2013 Baller Share Posted February 16, 2013 wow...that is a lot of faith put in the suction cup! No tether of anything?
Baller BobF Posted February 16, 2013 Baller Share Posted February 16, 2013 Surprised you didn't put one of the sticky mounts on the ski. You can use them along with the back door float in case (when) the camera becomes detached.
Phil2360
Thanks @dave_n, Looks like a great article. @kmenard, Had a floaty door on the camera & also another block of floatation tethered with zip ties to the suction cup. Enough bouyancy to float the loy of it all came adrift, which is a real possibility on that ski as it has a textured top deck & the suction cup did leak a bit when we first tested it on dry land. In the water it turned out fine & didn't release once. Only got one pair of sticky mounts at this point & 2 kids to fight over them. Will probably try that down the track. Still think above the rope at the handle join would be a good place for this thing, but haven't figured exactly how to do that yet.
Baller Deep11 Posted February 17, 2013 Baller Share Posted February 17, 2013 Great view - re: what @dave_n has said, if you got to Chris rossi's Facebook page he has recently uploaded a video from the same angle - not sure how to share it here but if someone can do it, it's definitely worthwhile. His "stack" is so good - just when you think he is in position, his hips come up to almost touch the handle and stay there until he releases. Really good view of the reverse "c" as well. dave_n
@Phil2360 here's a link to the video of Rossi on Facebook @Deep11 refers to: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151452218318748&set=vb.203457833007589&type=2&theater Below is a clip from the video as Chris crosses the wakes, about the same time as the clip of Robbie above. Another shot showing the reverse C position as he changes edge.
Phil2360
@dave_n, Wondering if he is still slightly too small for the ski he is on. He was on a 62"?? Revolt last season & some aspects of his form were more techinically correct. Given that he's now on a 65" ski & weighs 50kg (110lb), do you think he would benefit from moving the binders back one hole? Few more bits of footage on my YouTube Channel. Cheers. dave_n
@Phil2360 I think he may be a tad small for the ski but I still think he needs to work almost exclusively on shoulders over hips, hips over feet. Once he's skiing consistently in that stacked position it will be time to think of other things. Good luck.
Baller_ Wish Posted March 4, 2013 Baller_ Share Posted March 4, 2013 comparison video of the action cams out there if anyone is interested. HD Ghost is interesting in that it has a 2" viewing screen.
Baller kmenard Posted March 6, 2013 Baller Share Posted March 6, 2013 How are you finding the battery life on the gopro3? I got all of 25 minutes on a battery my first time using it!
Phil2360
@kmenard, I've got four. 2 Genuine & 2 Wasabi non-genuine. All seem good for around an hour or a bit more. Played a bit with time lapse & managed to get 5 1/2 hours with the 4 batteries, filming video in 4k @ 15 fps. Be aware that your battery might not be up to full capacity until you've cycled it a few times. Check out those othe batteries & the charger that comes with them. http://www.amazon.com/Wasabi-Power-Battery-AHDBT-201-AHDBT-301/dp/B00AAIPT76

Baller_ Wish Posted March 7, 2013 Baller_ Share Posted March 7, 2013 Been some questions on the Ghost HD. Here's kind of a nice review and highlights the best things like a waterproof wearable remote and rotational lense. GoPro is great but this seems easier, more practical, and the quality seems high.
