MappleSkis posted the format for our first "Mapple ProAm Challenge" event. It is different and trying to open things up with ideas I have seen/heard discussed over the years. Figured it maybe a good topic for discussion and ideas based off what we have posted so far.

@Mapple- curious about the format for the amateurs. In the details it says 1st round and 2nd round added together will be basis for finals qualification. Are the amateurs handicapped? Or is straight up high scores? Interesting that 2nd round will be backwards. THAT should spice things up a bit.

According to Andy, there will be a handicap for amateurs. They're wanting feedback from some skiers to get some ideas for the final rules/format package, which will be finalized in March. The round 2 rules make my head hurt just thinking about it. It's going to be funny to think about big time skiers practicing reverse slalom at their lakes after nationals. lol. As it sits now, the format is:

1st round:

Will consist of straight up 6 bouy RC.

Random draw running order in both Amatuer and Pro Divisions.

Men and Women will compete together. Women with a one pass and 2 MPH handicap added (2@41 for women = 2@43 for men)

4 pass maximum.

2nd round:

Will consist of 6 buoy " Non record" opposite slalom!

There has always been discussion in slalom, as to who has an advantage, the left foot forward skier with 3 onside turns, or the right foot forward skier with 3 offside turns, but an onside pull through the gates. Gordon Rathburn at Ski Paradise has always had this discussion and actually put opposite side buoys out on his course to try it out. All skiers in round two will start through the gates from the opposite side (driver side), therefore ball number one as they know it will now be the opposite turn than they are used to. Will we see in a competition who has the advantage???

Gates will NOT be judged this round!

4 pass maximum.

3rd round/Finals:

Will be 4 buoy slalom...rapid fire! 6 skiers to Pro final, with 6 boats. 4 skiers to Amateur final, with 4 boats.

Last skier standing wins!

PRO'S

Top four (4) combined scores of the first two rounds make it to the final, plus the next two (2) skiers with the highest combined score of first two rounds, PLUS THE HIGHEST AMOUNT OF TWITTER VOTES!!

(twitter voting details will be announced)

Every buoy in the previous rounds is 1 point each, and each twitter vote counts for one vote

Amateurs

Top four (4) combined scores of the first two rounds qualify for amateur finals.

@OB, @MattP just go around the first turn bouy on right(6 from the other way) then your 0 bouy is 1... It is an 8 bouy course and how many times will you practice this?
