Polishing ski surface.

Hi

 

After couple of years skiing on HO A1, I noticed that the surface is not that smooth as it was at the beginning. I wonder, if its possible to refresh it somehow..? Polishing maybe..? No significant scratches or other damages.

Please advise

polish it with a buffer and good wax....and then get a video of your first set on it!

Wipe it down with microfiber cloth after every use. Remove liner and let it dry after every use. Do not wax bottom. I use Mcquires No. 9 on the top once and awhile, but if you wipe it consistently it always looks good!!

I would not do anything to a ski that works.

Whatever you do, do not polish the bottom. If you feel that you need to do something, use dish soap and scotchbrite lightly and from tip to tail, be careful not to overdo it and change the bevels.

The texture on the bottom does matter. But too smooth might not be best. Many factory skis came with a fair amount of texture. Polishing is more different from your original ski than wallboard texture. @Horton‌ is right, don't mess with a ski that is working. If it's not working, I'd add a fairly rough sanded finish way before polishing.

 

I actually do texture with 40 grit. My texture fades noticeably and the retexture does improve the feel.

@sandrozaal‌ top surface or bottom surface of the ski?? What exactly do you intend to "polish"?

Flat black primer. The old example dragging a drinking glass over a wetted surface and the amount of stick that a shiny smooth surface creates is not what I think is desired in a ski bottom.

You can cover scratches sand them and spray the bottom with Black SEM Clasic Coat (or any other Clasic Coat colour you like). If there are no scratches you can use clear coat. Wash it with soap and scotchbrite sponge and you'll have a really nice newish bottom ski!

The lake I ski at is pretty muddy. Every few weeks I use a little vinegar on a towel to wipe down the layer that builds on my ski.
