Baller disland Posted January 4, 2015 Baller Share Posted January 4, 2015 I am thinking of getting a box to put on my roof rack for my car. http://www.yakima.com/shop/cargo/cargo-boxes/SKYBOXLOCARBONITE Any ballers with experience with these have any tips? Can you fit jumpers or 3 event bags on the roof at the same time? The boxes aren't long enough for jump skis, but they seem to fit slalom skis fine. Should I get the regular or low profile version? Baller jhughes Posted January 4, 2015 Baller Share Posted January 4, 2015 We have this on the car all summer and it's amazing. Nice and tall inside. Typically I'm taking 2 slaloms, 2 tricks, and tons of other gear in this thing and I'm consistently amazed at the capacity. http://www.thule.com/en-us/us/products/carriers-and-racks/boxes-and-baskets/roof-boxes/thule-force-alpine-623-_-1680038 Super quick removal and installation, just a terrific box overall. Baller gsm_peter Posted January 4, 2015 Baller Share Posted January 4, 2015 I have been using Thule for the last 25 years. Mostly for snow skis and windsurfing gear. Works great and an extra bonus for not showing what you have with you. Thule comes in three different sizes. Same lenght and hight. Narrow approx 60 cm. Great for put a surf bord or orher items besides the box. Normal approx 90 cm. Holds type 10 pair snow skis Wide. Approx 120 cm. Suitable for wider cars like mini vans. It is convinient to load/unload also from the sides. Max inside lenght is about 205 cm. Would guess jumpers are loooong skis. DH skis 223 cm did not fit into normal box. Note1 It is easy to go over max allowed roof load. An empty normal box ia about 20 kg Note2 Secure space for the back door. One has to add spacers to lift back end of the box so door can be fully opened.
kstateskier
I had the Thule. Worked great for transporting my slalom/trick gear and was quiet on the roof. Kept my SUV from stinking like a wet dog and allowed me to lock up my gear. Now I drive a truck and throw all my wet gear in the bed under the tonneau cover. Baller Chef23 Posted January 5, 2015 Baller Share Posted January 5, 2015 I have a Thule box that I don't see on the website right now so I don't think they make it anymore. Mine is 88" long and I can fit my son's 84" jumpers, two slalom skis in ski bags, two trick skis and assorted other stuff in there including vests, wetsuits, ropes, handles etc. I just looked at the Thule site and they have a 92.5" box now. They probably wouldn't hold 92" jumpers though because of the way the tips curve. I generally don't put my son's 3 event bag in the box. When we go skiing I can fit 4 pairs of skis, poles, 2 snowboards and still have a little room in mine. I love having the box I wish I had bought one sooner. I would consider this one particularly for jumpers http://www.thule.com/en-us/us/products/carriers-and-racks/boxes-and-baskets/roof-boxes/thule-sonic-xxl-636b-_-1680021

Baller skierjp Posted January 5, 2015 Baller Share Posted January 5, 2015 I've always wondered what the inside temp is on say a hot day in Florida? I liked to know the temp driving down the road and setting still. Most carbon fiber skis can't withstand hot temps. I'm sure if the vehicle is sitting still it's got to be smokin hot inside. Baller Chef23 Posted January 5, 2015 Baller Share Posted January 5, 2015 @skierjp I have made the drive down to North Carolina in summer and multiple tournaments in the Northeast when it is hot and I haven't had any trouble with my skis.
