Ok so I crushed my front ankle..somewhat. Nothing that has not gotten better with time. Walking 100% weight with tooth ache pain at the most and am only 6 days out. Swelling was minimal and now 95% gone. Not gonna rush to get back on the ski as I know being older takes longer to heal and ankles are easily tweaked the second time. With that all said, when I do go I'd like to support it with tape. Any taping techniques you all use. Web links, pics, directions all helpful.

General advise - keep ankle in ice bucket as long and often as possible. It may shorten healing time by 50%. Do not rush to ski.

Rest & cold makes a miracle.

There are so many types of ankle injuries - sometimes taping could make it worse. Professional consultation needed.

In some situations silicone heel wedge can ease pain.

I had to tape my ankle and taped it the same way we taped them when I played volleyball so the ankle wouldn't role over. It was hard to get it into the binding but sure was easy on my mental state knowing it wasn't going to role in another crash.

Mine wasn't quite as pretty but it worked.

My experience with blown ankles from playing basketball taught me the key to eliminating the pain was to get the swelling out asap. I have an overly tight ankle wrap that helps push the swelling out of the ankle. Works great.

I have been wearing a heavy duty compression sleeve since it happened and lots of ice. Little to no swelling now but looking for extra support ideas when I head back out in a week.

Shave your leg hair off and skip the pre-tape. A good tape job with quality tape will last a few days even if it gets wet. If you can find someone else that knows how to tape an ankle, have them do it. Taping your own ankle is hard.

I've been duct taping my front ankle for over 20 years. should have bought stock. Shave ankle and figure 8 it up to about 8 inches from ground. Be careful not to go too tight when wrapping, or else you foot goes numb. 5 or 6 times and you'll have it down. I recommend ACE hardware brand!

don't get the real thin crap or gorilla tape...go in the middle on thickness.

ankle taping helps rolling, but not they crushing type that you get from skiing. The general rule is if you have to tape, you will be better off waiting until you are more fully healed. If you can't help yourself, you run the risk of ending up like liquidd and being permanently deformed.

If it was easy, they would call it Wakeboarding

@wish, are you in hardshells? If so, skip the tape and get something like this.

I used one for the remainder of a season when I crushed my front ankle. This type of brace takes pressure of the ligaments of the ankle used when walking. Actually the ankle specialist told me to where it all day for six weeks back, when it happened, to relieve that pressure and promote healing.
