Baller LZywicki1 Posted September 21, 2015 Baller Share Posted September 21, 2015 This is my first year skiing in tournaments and having some difficulties swimming to shore with my jacket on, ( O'Neill Revenge - non USCG), not something that I have had to do before. I'm not the best swimmer but I'm not the worst, at one time I did had a Red Cross lifesaving cert. Is there a jacket that you prefer for swimming to shore. On a side note anyone that's skiing with pro-lock glove and Strada/Vapor bindings, have you had problems getting the laces undone. If so any suggestion to make that easier would be helpful. Baller Chef23 Posted September 21, 2015 Baller Share Posted September 21, 2015 I use Pro-Locks and Stradas and don't have any real problem getting the boots loose. I find loosen the lower one first usually just by pulling up on the tab. For the top lace I do it with one hand and find the little button and slide that up and the whole thing moves up. I generally just leave the liner in the boot and slide my foot out of it.
Baller oldjeep Posted September 21, 2015 Baller Share Posted September 21, 2015 How are you trying to swim? Something like a breaststroke is easiest in a jacket - keeping your head up the whole time. Can't imagine trying to crawl stroke in a jacket.
Baller OldboyII Posted September 21, 2015 Baller Share Posted September 21, 2015 Try to swim on your back, face up, using only legs - frog style. It is amasingly fast. And does not take any energy, which is also important.
Baller GOODESkier Posted September 21, 2015 Baller Share Posted September 21, 2015 Hang on to the rope....... Or crash hard enough to blow out of the bindings and fly towards shore. Kill two birds with one stone. JUST KIDDING! Some lakes have a LONG swim unless you want the really long walk of shame barefoot! I am guessing if you get the issue of removing your feet from the bindings faster, the swim part won't be as stressful. Also, remember, you only really need to get yourself clear of the course and skier path so don't fret too much about it. Secondly, if the tournament is so stressed they can't wait a few seconds for you or provide a little help on the shore...... or maybe ask the tournament official. Or atleast let them know you struggle with those two things currently. There should be a little help and understanding. As a Dad, I worry about my 6 year old in this regard. This past weekend, he fell for the first time in a tournament. I happen to be driving the boat, and my wife and daughter were not with us. So he had the long swim at Warman in Vancouver. I was surprised by the time I finished his pass at 23 MPH and returned at 36 MPH he was almost up on shore.
Baller rodltg2 Posted September 21, 2015 Baller Share Posted September 21, 2015 You must have deep wide lakes. I just walk to shore.
Baller LeonL Posted September 22, 2015 Baller Share Posted September 22, 2015 Try a side stroke. Not very tiring. Works for me, as I do a lot of swimming, lol.
