Baller 6balls Posted February 17, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 17, 2016 I'm helping a friend source a boat. He and his two daughters free ski most mornings in MN summers. He used to have a MC 205 that got damaged, and thus bought a DD Sport Nautique. The wake at the 15 off or so and 30-34 mph is too stiff to be acceptable. They occasionally get a ride behind my TSC1 196 and love it, but would stay cheaper if they could. Have been looking for EFI '91-'94 MC's. Came across a '98 with just over 200 hrs and LT1 that appears near new condition. Anyone know how wakes compare to a TSC1 (I know they are not as good...how much worse?) or a '91-'94 MC 190? THX in advance.
Baller Zoro957 Posted February 17, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 17, 2016 I had a '97 MC with the LT1 and I thought the wake was great. I believe the '98 is the same hull. I also ski in the 30-34 MPH range and -15 to -28 off with that boat with no problems.
Baller rodltg2 Posted February 17, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 17, 2016 lots to be said about that hull. but the 1998 is not the same as the 1997 .
Baller skiinxs Posted February 17, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 17, 2016 Not bad if it has the training wheels (glued in pieces at the chines that fill in the open area) and rudder with the wing that creates lift instead of the original one that pulled down. Baller_ MISkier Posted February 17, 2016 Baller_ Share Posted February 17, 2016 I would probably avoid that 1998 MC. The 1995-1997 MC would be better and the 1993-1994 MC even better yet. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller 6balls Posted February 17, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted February 17, 2016 @skiinxs I've seen the pics looks like a rudder with a small wing and the rudder is vented as well (has holes thru it). @MISkier cuz the wake is not so good? Baller foxriverat Posted February 17, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 17, 2016 A friend I ski with is going to be selling his 94 mc 205 with the LT1 sold his lift this fall and selling the boat this spring. I could find out what he wants for it. Its in Illinois
Baller kurt Posted February 17, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 17, 2016 the '98 was not a good hull.....
Baller PatM Posted February 17, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 17, 2016 I believe the 1998 was the boat that they beached during the AWSA tests. Only to fix it with the funky rudder and bolt in chines.

Baller_ MISkier Posted February 17, 2016 Baller_ Share Posted February 17, 2016 @6balls, the 98 Prostar wake was not good and there were some handling issues as well. If I recall correctly, it had the nickname of Deathstar. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted February 17, 2016 Baller_ Share Posted February 17, 2016 I have a very nice 08 MC for $28K (OBO) There are starting to be some pretty good buy's on older ZO boats. I would steer clear of the old 98 "DeathStar"""

Baller_ MISkier Posted February 18, 2016 Baller_ Share Posted February 18, 2016 That 94 205 that @foxriverat mentioned could be a good option. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller 9400 Posted February 18, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 18, 2016 Worst boat MC ever made. However if you can find one that was modified by the MC pit crew (wings and a lip on the backend) it might be Ok. But I remember a handful of them being driven on shore. Dangerous boat for the inexperienced.
Baller 9400 Posted February 18, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 18, 2016 Bad wakes on unmodified boats.

Baller swc5150 Posted February 18, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 18, 2016 We owned a '98 LT1. Nice motor, crap hull. Sorry to be blunt, but we highly disliked that boat.
Baller thager Posted February 19, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 19, 2016 @6balls All the fancy underwater hardware was to correct for a bad tendency to chine lock if I remember correctly!
Baller 9400 Posted February 19, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 19, 2016 This boat had to have the least amount of testing (prior to the release for sale) in the history of ski boat testing. It's almost like they couldn't have even put it in the water.
Baller swc5150 Posted February 19, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 19, 2016 No one has mentioned the wake yet, so I'll add that it was very stiff and turbulent. If I didn't get the boat at cost from working at an MC dealer, we'd have gone SN for sure. Probably should've anyway!
Baller 6balls Posted February 19, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted February 19, 2016 I think I remember that whole mess now. I was skiing tourney's back then and at one of them no one wanted the MC and it was the one that chine locked in testing and needed modified. The promo owner/driver was kinda getting upset about the negativity and wasn't planning to ski the tourney...he put out his cigarrette, put on his ski and ran a score into 38. I couldn't remember, though, what year hull that was...sounds like it was the '98. Have told my buddy to steer clear...will continue trying to find him a '91-'94 MC 190 with EFI.
