Press release today -- MBUU to get blocks from GM and marinize their own engines. Added 70,000 sq ft of manufacturing space. Could be using the engines as early as 2019 model year.

Yeah, but Indmar is a great company to work with. I've gotten quick responses to engine questions and even questions about various Diacom results. They have been very helpful to people on the Malibu forum. Hopefully Malibu figures out a way to provide that sort of support instead of just having you call the dealer.

This sounds like a great idea maybe they will try messing with diesel engines I think a boat with this type of engine would work wonders for the water ski world.

@Jack_Haase - Diesels are probably further from reality now than ever. #rollcoal.

Can't imagine with the hosing VW/Audi/Porsche is taking currently that a competitor is sitting in the wings to take that business.

I wish them luck. It is 'bucking' the system for sure. I can't think of another boat maker that produces their own engines. Not sure I would want to buy a first year model.

Pretty big undertaking with all considered but with today's CNC technology and automated machines that mill and bend metal it is an attainable direction. GM is aggressive and is always looking for markets to sell their products into. With Indmar tying in with Ford and Ilmore dabbling in the inboard market that leaves the heavyweights Pleasurecraft / Crusader and Merc still the dominate marinizers. Time will only tell if the endeavor is successful.

Press release indicates the strong relationship with GM, one could assume they 'lost' the unique link as Indmar transitioned to Ford and wanted to re-strengthen that relationship and perhaps other suppliers did not meet Malibu requirements for quality/volume/etc. It will offer some opportunity as Malibu offers dual branding on the Corvette boats as an example.

In addition to the logistics and all that is required to set up the facility, I would think calibration expertise will be one key area of talent needed. Hardware is all pretty much available from numerous suppliers.
