Baller Dacon62 Posted October 4, 2018 Baller Share Posted October 4, 2018 Anyone have one of these? Is it a performance enhancer, theft device or just eye candy? They come in Nibral or Stainless. Looks awesome!
Baller Nando Posted October 4, 2018 Baller Share Posted October 4, 2018 Seen 'em, look kinda cool, but how is it attached?
Baller BraceMaker Posted October 4, 2018 Baller Share Posted October 4, 2018 It just has set screw clamped to the prop nut. No real theft deterrent. Any pipe wrench will undo it.
Baller LZywicki1 Posted October 4, 2018 Baller Share Posted October 4, 2018 I've have one on, it's eye candy. Only real advantage I've seen in not having to deal with cotter pins. Larry -----<|
Baller DavidN Posted October 4, 2018 Baller Share Posted October 4, 2018 Have one too. Makes ZERO difference. But I agree, it looks cool. :D
Baller eleeski Posted October 4, 2018 Baller Share Posted October 4, 2018 Any smoothing of the trick table? @LZywicki1 Your Malibu trick table is great so nothing will show up there. Wondering if any N196 skiers have tried it for tricks? Eric
Baller BraceMaker Posted October 4, 2018 Baller Share Posted October 4, 2018 And a locknut is what replaces the cotter... which IMO not a good substitute on splined props. Ok on keyed but splines can back off a keyed nut.
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted October 5, 2018 Baller_ Share Posted October 5, 2018 I ran one from O.J Props on all my 196's thinking it would help the trick table turbulence. I also thought it looked cool!!
Baller Garn Posted October 5, 2018 Baller Share Posted October 5, 2018 I've never actually understood the purpose of the cotter pin. I sure as hell doesn't hold the nut on.
Baller A_B Posted October 5, 2018 Baller Share Posted October 5, 2018 @Garn, think about reverse on a RH rotating prop....
Baller JC McCavit Posted October 5, 2018 Baller Share Posted October 5, 2018 How much does the cover cost, and who do you order one from?
Baller BraceMaker Posted October 5, 2018 Baller Share Posted October 5, 2018 @Garn with tapered and keyed shafts the taper drives the prop. The nut holds the taper engaged, the key prevents spinning if things get loose. The nuts were castle nuts with slots for the cotter which kept it from turning. Most now replace the castle nut with a nylon lock type nut and as such skip a cotter as youve noted a nylock can back off several turns before it hits the cotter pin. Splined are a bit of a different beast and IMO should really have castle nut and cotter pins but... no one seems to agree.
