Baller thager Posted February 20, 2021 Baller Share Posted February 20, 2021 Wow, cool concept! Also looks like an easy way to get a slightly longer ski with a little machining ingenuity and a couple longer screws. ;) I also would recommend a little Loctite when settled on the tail piece. Baller aupatking Posted February 21, 2021 Baller Share Posted February 21, 2021 @Horton All tails are the same length? Any one of them easier than another to get consistent DFT measurements? Looks like the answer to question 2 would be an obvious “square is easier than round” but just thought I’d ask since you’ve got one and I don’t. Yet
Administrators Horton Posted February 21, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted February 21, 2021 @aupatking I think you need to change your DFT methods a little with the DV8. Just spitballing here..... Start with the standard tail. Set a base DFT. Adjust as needed. When you change to the sharp or round tail you need to remeasure and note the delta. We measure DFT as if the distance from the back of the fin to the physical tail of the ski is critical. That not really what is important. The way we measure is DFT is just a shortcut to finding the distance between the fin "Center Of Pressure" and the bindings. So even though the DFT measurement maybe different with different tails I think it is a mistake to think that you need to move your fin so the DFT number stays the same. Does that make any sense??? Baller jjackkrash Posted February 21, 2021 Baller Share Posted February 21, 2021 @joelhowley says always measure the fin with stock tail regardless of which tail you are using for measurements. Swap it in, measure, swap it it out. Note that the instructions that came with the ski say you can measure DFT without any block on at all for consistency. Joel's post is in this thread: https://www.ballofspray.com/forum#/discussion/24021/the-2021-dv8-featuring-versatail-by-connelly-skis/p3 He still owes a fin set up video. :)
Administrators Horton Posted February 21, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted February 21, 2021 @jjackkrash that would be the simple solution. Baller CollinSpradlin Posted February 23, 2021 Baller Share Posted February 23, 2021 Fun Fact: @Horton was instrumental in pushing Connelly into a new fin block design. Trivia: What other aspect of our high-end skis changed after sharp criticism from the admin here? Prize: Official Vintage Connelly Factory Test Team die cut sticker. Baller MattP Posted February 23, 2021 Baller Share Posted February 23, 2021 @CollinSpradlin There are a number of things that come to mind. What is fin flex or the micro-just just to get things rolling.
Baller swaterkd Posted February 23, 2021 Baller Share Posted February 23, 2021 There is also another thing about this ski. I have two friends both high level skiing on it and they are 3D printing different tails!!!
Baller UCFskier Posted February 23, 2021 Baller Share Posted February 23, 2021 fin block looks sweet!! Have to ask.... I know a lot of design goes into a total ski... to have the base flow into the tail and for everything to work in conjunction with all other aspects. is it possible to have one base design work with 3 different tails? I look forward to you review @Horton
Baller CollinSpradlin Posted February 23, 2021 Baller Share Posted February 23, 2021 @Horton it's good because I had no design input :p @aupatking no, but good guess! @MattP also a nice guess

Baller Skoot1123 Posted February 23, 2021 Baller Share Posted February 23, 2021 How about the tail riding a little higher in the water so it takes less effort to ski on.
Baller CollinSpradlin Posted February 23, 2021 Baller Share Posted February 23, 2021 @BobF you're getting close! It's not graphic related but it does have to do with the aesthetic of the ski. @Skoot1123 that IS what our square or "sharp" tail does, but we didn't get that idea from JH. Baller dchristman Posted February 24, 2021 Baller Share Posted February 24, 2021 @CollinSpradlin aesthetic but not graphics. I'm thinking he didn't like the tip shape of the old Prophecy.
Baller BraceMaker Posted February 24, 2021 Baller Share Posted February 24, 2021 @CollinSpradlin flat top deck? @Thager all that length would be at the rear end and be as DFT. Would probably force a binding move and then you're not on the same portion of the rocker.
Baller CollinSpradlin Posted February 24, 2021 Baller Share Posted February 24, 2021 @Dchristman tip shape? No, but that's the area of the ski we're looking at. @BraceMaker we started C.A.P.T. (Connelly Advanced Profile Technology) back in the day to move away from flat top skis. The DV8 and GT-R are quite a bit more traditional than some previous models though. That came from another JH. :)

Baller Sethski Posted February 24, 2021 Baller Share Posted February 24, 2021 @Horton to be fair, I like the size sticker...but do you need to understand I’d go toe to toe with no size sticker, overhand grip, opposite foot forward with you any day...challenge extended my friend...as long as I can ride my DV8...(for clarification...we will both be opposite foot forward)
