08 196 hour meter

Was skiing tonight thinking this was the night we pass 1000 hrs on our 08 Nautique. Driving the wife, take a look we're at 999.9. This will be cool I'll take her past 1000. After I get done still 999.9, WTF? After another set, still 999.9. Does anyone know if these meters stop there. I would think they would continue to 4 digits.

Unfortunately this is a situation for 196 owners due to the gateway box that Nautique used as part of their dash instrumentation package. I have a 2004 and my gateway box is mounted on the transom. Many folks have complained to Nautique but they haven’t gotten any resolution. Some have chosen to mount another hour meter under the engine cover. If you have Perfect Pass you can read your hours there. Also the Diacom software can display your mileage to include time at each rpm range for the truly information seekers.

Red 196 shows 440 hours on second gauge. Third ecm.... it is what it is!!

Had the same problem on my 2004 196 Limited. Tried unsuccessfully to buy a new replacement gauge. As already suggested, I just wired an hour meter under the dash to keep track for oil changes.

dbski, just curious, are you running ppass or zero off? My 08 ECM got reflashed for zero off, and my gauge reads correctly (over 1000 hours). Standard Faria.

Is the dash gauge stand alone?

Its zero off and the gauge is incorporated into the main gauge.

One of my ski partners has an 07 that was flashed for ZO and his hour meter is stuck at 999.9 as well with the gateway system. I am sure my 07 with ZO will have the same issue here in 100 hours...

Just looked at nautiqueparts.com and they have a few replacement gauges for your boat. May not match color wise, but it is an option.
