Baller drewski16 Posted January 21, 2022 Baller Share Posted January 21, 2022 I have a 2000 Ski Nautique. It has a bad tranny. They have discontinued that tranny and parts for it. Any ideas where parts may be available? It for sure needs clutches. Thanks for the help!
Baller ALPJr Posted January 21, 2022 Baller Share Posted January 21, 2022 I’d give Discount Inboard Marine a call or look up skidim.com. They’re very helpful.

Baller markn Posted January 21, 2022 Baller Share Posted January 21, 2022 Had the same issue with my 2004. Thankfully able to have a new PCM 80 installed by Skip Dunlap. Seem to recall Jody S. indicating there is a 6 week wait for a replacement tranny. Replacement parts for the series 40 trannies are next to impossible to find. If you repair with used parts, it may not last. More expensive but certainly more reliable is to replace with the series 80. Good luck.
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted January 21, 2022 Baller_ Share Posted January 21, 2022 Long wait on series 80 conversion 123:1 PCM kits. More like 10 to 14 weeks.. Price has gone up considerably also. Let me know I can get a build order going. Other option is call fantastic finish in Medina Ohio see if they have enough parts to rebuild yours. Baller chrislandy Posted January 22, 2022 Baller Share Posted January 22, 2022 Is the transmission not just a rebadged Hurth or Velvet Drive ?
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted January 22, 2022 Baller_ Share Posted January 22, 2022 @chrislandy The series 40 (1989-2013) had many flaws. One of them being the clutch drum. Also with increased engine power it was time to reinvent and build a more robust transmission. The series 80 may or does share some internal parts with the Borg 71/72 however physically are different in both appearance and weight. Hurths are completely different animals altogether.. Baller chrislandy Posted January 22, 2022 Baller Share Posted January 22, 2022 @Jody_Seal So PCM did their own uprated version? Great info, thanks. (Velvet Drive / BW is a massive hole in my knowledge as I've always had Hurth)
Baller LeonL Posted January 22, 2022 Baller Share Posted January 22, 2022 What years of Nautique have the series 40? When did series 80 first appear?
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted January 22, 2022 Baller_ Share Posted January 22, 2022 @LeonL i think some of the first 80 series 2011- 2013 Maybe ? 1989 I believe power plus campaign PCM series 40 123:1 as well as 1:1... Engineers put a high pressure capped off tube on top of transmission of many of them because the selector valves bypassed fluid and rattled. The tube was like a dampener device to quite the rattle...
