This foam is fairly brittle and no longer well attached - falling off in places. Is there a specific product to replace it with ? If its for sound dampening 1/4" of zero-mass foam can't be doing much. If it was installed for a cosmetic finish perhaps just remove what is left and do nothing more ?

Suggestions ?

Self adhesive. I thought I'd have to use some type of glue, but it has held well for over 2 years. I used a wallpaper seam roller to press down the mat, and foil tape for the seams.

I used 3M-400L insulation. Works well so far, very light and easy to work with. It is available in multiple thickness depending on your need. Attached with 3M 90 spray adhesive, seamed with cloth electrical tape.
