New mirror for 196?

Looking to get a new mirror for my ‘02 196 so we can see skier on both sides of the course. Seems like most posts say the PTM 140 is the best option. Any other recommendations? Thanks

The PTM 140 is best wide mirror IMO.

I also changed to the PTM EDGE MIRROR/BRACKET COMBO. VR-140 MIRROR & CFR-200 BRACKET. Has the wide field of vision you are looking for.

I have an ‘01 SN 196 with the PTM edge mirror. Love it and wouldn’t go back to anything else.

My first encounter with a PTM Edge drew my eyes to it, despite not wanting to look at it. Mirrors...even though (maybe because) I've driven slalom for 35+ years I rarely look back while I'm in the course.

I got this one for our 196 and love it. Low profile mounting bracket, allows for cover to still button over it. Folds up and down quick and easy.

I was taught that a driver should not be looking at the skier or looking in the mirror while in the slalom course. The driver should be looking ahead and concentrating on boat path. To each his own.

@dbutcher That makes sense, but what should people do when it's only a driver and a skier? I don't ski or drive the course, so I might be missing something.

 

My vote is 100% for the PTM Edge! Absolutely love ours.

PTM! there is or at least was a guy on ski-it-again selling them at a slight discount.

@tjs1295 When the driver is alone in the boat in the slalom course, his/her focus should still

be on boat path - not watching the skier or trying to coach. If/when the skier falls, the driver can feel that. If you are not in a slalom course, there is less need to focus on path so occasional glances in the mirror or at the skier are fine.

@dbutcher I see. Thanks for the info. You probably wouldn't feel me fall unless we were using a small aluminum fishing boat. :D
