Baller buoyboy1 Posted October 4, 2022 Baller Share Posted October 4, 2022 I have a 2005 196 with that engine. I did mine back in 2012 when it had 425 hrs. Tim White (inboard solutions) in AL did the conversion. Zero regrets! Still have the boat and it now has 1050 hrs on it. PM me if you need specifics. radarlove
Your 05 have drive by wire?
Baller aupatking Posted October 5, 2022 Baller Share Posted October 5, 2022 @radarlove you have the 02 196, correct? Tim did my 02 as well. It did require the additional throttle by wire(in this case we call it drive-by-wire or DBW), as I’m sure yours will. I’m happy to help with questions and still have the parts list, or I’m sure Jody will pop up any minute. I believe the guy known for doing the ZO conversions on the west coast is Doug Moss. I’ve seen some of the stuff he’s done and it looks great. Oh yeah, as @buoyboy1 said, I also have ZERO regrets. Best slalom boat ever made
radarlove
Trying to gauge what it takes, thanks for any info
Baller thager Posted October 5, 2022 Baller Share Posted October 5, 2022 I was one of the first to do the conversion myself. Did my 02 in 2010, also thru Tim White. Tim sent me the parts and I did the swap. He helped me with any questions. Was relatively easy.
Baller Killer Posted October 5, 2022 Baller Share Posted October 5, 2022 You need an econtrols ECM to convert to drive by wire throttle system, cables + Zero off kit which is $1600Based on the pricing I've seen, Probably around 5-6k if you do it yourself. Baller Not_The_Pug Posted October 5, 2022 Baller Share Posted October 5, 2022 @radarlove Where are you located? Doug Moss does a lot of these on the west coast. He did our 04 196 a number years ago and it has been great. I did the upgrade to the single puck a couple of years ago.
Baller aupatking Posted October 6, 2022 Baller Share Posted October 6, 2022 I’m still looking for all of my documentation. I feel like it requires a new throttle body as well, so the new throttle potentiometer can mount to it. While we’re on the subject, does anyone know if converting the 330 to EControls ECM with new throttle body makes it technically a 343? I’ve heard it said, but never seen any info to back that up. Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted October 6, 2022 Baller_ Share Posted October 6, 2022 its pretty straightforward if you know what you are looking at.if you want to buy the parts I will sell them to youso will Tim And Doug however we are not going to give them away and technical support is not going to be free.to convert at "Vortec" non dbw chevy including zero off will run closer to $5kdifference between 330 and 343 is basically the generation of the throttle body utilized.
