OldZGuy Posted October 7, 2023 Share Posted October 7, 2023 I’m looking at a 1995 Prostar 205 with a LT1 and Hurth HSW 450 D with 470 hours. It has a whine when the transmission is in neutral that goes away when put in gear, looking for insight as to what is causing it. Also would you buy or stay away? Current owners state it has been looked at by Mastercraft mechanic who pulled and opened up and found nothing wrong, checked alignment . Owner say the sound hasn’t gotten worse during the 4 years he has owned. The boat is a garage queen other than that. Thanks for any help Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Baller S1Pitts Posted October 9, 2023 Baller Share Posted October 9, 2023 I had a simular issue in an old 77 SN that had a BorgWarner Velvet Drive tranny. Turned out when they rebuilt it the kit had an updated valve that did not match the housing correctly. I do not know much abou the guts of the tranny but the mechanic modded the housing to match some kinda port better and the whine went away.
