  1. I came across that video on YouTube and was extremely depressed. I was top seed going into the jump finals in that tournament. I think the only time I was in my career of pro tournaments. I think I placed 7th. that year and they edited me out. I remember Lucky's jump. He made a mistake on his turn which made him very late but he held on for the win. It was a 5 1/2' ramp. GOOD TIMES. Glory days, they pass you by.

  3. Spot on @wish. I like the MOBs as well for the reasons you stated. I think they are an evolution of the ARC bindings from the mid or early 90s. Back then there were a few skiers using the ARCs for jump but there were a lot of concerns about pre-release. I spent a good bit of time talking with the guy who built the ARCs. I can't remember his name (old age) but he was a great guy from NW. I'm not sure what the improvements that Mike has made since then but I hope he chimes in on this thread. I think the ARC was based on the Besser snow ski binding system from way back in the 70s. They used them a lot on beginner rental skis back then. I grew up snow skiing and water-skiing way back then. I'm very interested in this topic.
  4. @lpskier Why do you say not a good idea that about those jump bindings. You don't know what you're talking about. 1990s snow ski binding technology is still light years ahead of anything produced by any waterski binding to this day. I built those in late 90s and used them successfully until mid 2000s. They never pre-released and the only time I crashed they performed flawlessly except for some cheap broken buckles. Good rubber jump binding don't release and you are going to hurt your leg in a crash. They were rolleblade boots that I fabricated to mount on snow ski bindings. If I were to get back into jumping (unlikely) there is no doubt that I would use something like this. The science has been done in the snow ski industry. I would think Joel would use something like this for his set up. My boots were much less rigid than snow ski boots and I found a much lower DIN number was necessary. I was jumping mid 160s in men 3 back then with many Reg. and Nat. titles. Not pro tour but working full time at a regular job raising kids etc.
  5. I grew up and learned to ski on that lake in Limerick, Sokokis. We still have a place there. My parents living there most of the time now. I had a jump on the lake from mid 70s to very early 80s but not a slalom coarse. Had to have a permit and didn't have too much resistance. I lived there for a couple years after college in the mid-late 80s. I put a slalom coarse in (got a permit from the state) through the Ice. As @Clydesdale said, the natives got restless, filed a lot of complaints and they yanked my permit the next year. I go up there now and then and love to see, sometimes ski Clydes coarse. Go ULM. Anyone know who I am? Besides Horton and Clyde probably.

  9. Thanks, It didn't start before installing the starter, that's why the new starter but I suspect there is more to it. It is in neutral and safety lanyard intact. Not that it may be possible for these systems to be bad but I don't think so. Something is happening when engaging the start ignition switch but obviously not enough to trigger the soelenoid (sp?). It makes a faint click but not a clicking like I have heard before with starter problems. I'm convinced it is not the new starter as it works fine when bypassed on or off the boat
  10. I have a 1999 Malibu Response LX, Monsoon engine. I replaced the starter, the starter guy said mine was un-rebuildable. I can get the new starter to turn over the engine by crossing the terminals on the starter but nothing with the key so I replaced the ignition key switch, still nothing. Any ideas what to look for next? I suspect there may be a relay somewhere but don't know where it might be located. The voltage is good at the positive and negative terminals on the starter. I have requested a wiring diagram from Malibu but no response. Any idea where I could get one of these?
  11. @Klindy I found that out when I signed up for a 2 year membership. Thanks. It used to not be that way. I might even start skiing tournaments again. I was looking over the Nationals scores and was very pleased to see how many juniors participated. I like the apparent opportunity for the people who have really worked hard over the years with little reward, to ski their age division, ski open for a chance at the pro event, and then as I saw in one particular case, beat the pros. That is a motivator to increase the sport. BTW, I skied on the pro tour back in the 80s.
  12. This is the best thing AWSA has done for the sport and especially the younger folks in over 20 years, maybe longer. I'm going to pay my dues which I have not done in over 10 years because I wasn't skiing in tournaments even though there is only 3 months left in the year and I'll pay next year. I see hope with this kind of thing, keep it up.

  14. Gar, I assume you are the Gar I know from Jackson? There will definitely be many from 1984 including myself. I know many from as far back as 77 are coming. Hope to see a bunch from later years as well. Please plan to attend and get the word out.

  17. @Horton, We are having 40 year NLU/ULM reunion November 3-5 I'm Monroe LA. Let's get the word out. It is on the Alumni site I think. Maybe Facebook page which I don't participate in. Did they let you graduate? I also started a Dropbox file for people to share pictures but it has not been real successful. Only some of the real old timers are invited so far but we could use help in getting the word out.

  19. Rent a robotic total station with a data collector. Figure out where exactly you want the coarse, set up 2 known points in relation to the coarse on land. This could be done with the total station and a couple of buoys. The best thing I have seen was a buoy with a threaded male insert glued to the top, all prisms I have used have 5/8" 11 thread couplings. You will need a 360 degree prism. If you have this setup, you could have a guy in the boat holding the data collector, advising swimmers/ divers how far to move each buoy and in what direction. After you get it set, it should be record tolerance. The total stations are extremely accurate. One bit of advise is to let the total station see, clear line of site, the prism all the time but if it looses it, it's no big deal but costs time. Best if you have someone familiar with these systems. GPS system is another, maybe faster way to do it. Most sophisticated contractors have these systems and surveyors. It really should not be that expensive to do.

  21. OK, so I am trying to get my 99 Malibu up and running properly. Boat runs good, PP works. All the guages are out. I am in Lake Charles, LA so Houston is not a problem. Any suggestions? Shane? Thanks, Lyle
