I dislocated my shoulder slalom skiing July 13. MRI showed I had partial rotator cuff tear and labrum tear. I started easy slalom and trick skiing August 7th. Now running course and plan on jumping tomorrow. (I’m old so slow speeds in course and jump.) I’m taking PT twice a week. I use a Sully shoulder brace when skiing and feel it keeps my shoulder more stable. Definitely recommend the Sully brace—hardly notice I have it on.
@adkh2oskier thanks for feedback and suggestions. Helpful to get info regarding personal experiences with dislocation. Will definitely ask to have MRI scheduled when I see ortho on Tuesday. @bkreis I will be in touch.
Reviving old thread. I dislocated my shoulder slalom skiing on Thursday. First time doing so. Hurt like heck. ER docs put it back in socket and everything is good. It was out about 3 hours. Unfortunately, I cannot see orthopedic doctor until the 25th and I’m supposed to use sling until that time. Looks like I’m missing Regionals and Nationals but want to ski Sr PanAms mid September. Does this seem reasonable? Also, would like to do gentle arm movements given I will not get PT referral until seeing doctor. Thoughts on my beginning gentle movements now. BTW, I’m 74 female and ski all 3 events. Suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks.
Total detachment of right arm distal bicep tendon June 15 last year. Surgery to reattach June 29. Trick skied on my birthday October 22 (73rd birthday). Didn’t slalom until this spring. Arm seems strong but my slalom still sucks. ??
I think Martin Kolman (11,410), not Louis (11,350), qualified in tricks at Drew’s. I would expect Louis to qualify at Travers. He’s an awesome trick skier.
My Facebook feed has included multiple daily posts with pictures and texts updates from the Chile Federation and Water Ski Canada. Although I have kept up with online scoring, it would have been nice to see updates posted on The USAWaterSki web page. Same thing happened during Senior PanAms. Need to recognize how our skiers are performing on a daily basis rather than waiting until conclusion of tournament and posting short blurb. Disappointed. One of the reasons I don’t check our website for current happenings.
Three from slalom; does not count ruptured bicep tendon, did not fall.
Five from jumping (broken arm, broken leg, hamstring, knee, stitches eyelid.
None from tricks—maybe I should just trick. ??Nope!!!!
I didn’t know Chad professionally, but I did know how awesome and professionally he pulled this old, overweight woman 8 skier many times. Although I did go for 7 buoy once at Nationals when he drove me, @Jody_Seal also did that to me once at state championship—two of the best drivers ever???. Sending positive thoughts to Chad that he’s back on the water soon. Missing u at the ski dock.
Announcing the trick event is not an easy task. Hope you can find someone who can recognize the different tricks in a competitor’s run and then can provide to listeners names and information about the relative difficulty/point values of some of the different tricks.
