Cool!!!

Continuing, these two are a “Wally Burr” purchased the summer of 1962 or 63 in Seattle. The other is an O’Brien purchased in 1967 (the year I was born, so I’m happy to hear my dad has his priorities in the right place), in Seattle.

 

 

 

These are my fathers skis. The first one is an “Alfredo Mendoza” Cypress Gardens ski. The fin, which has been removed to mount on the wall, was HUGE. It was purchased in FL in 1959.

What are your goals? Open water or course? What is your age, weight, height?

OK. My Reflex 5.0 has a graphite cup built into the heal area on the base plate which sort of centers things too. I'm going to go snug up those nuts closer to the boot when it is held down.

They "hold" the heal in place? Like @Horton said, I have never found my boot to slip around. Once I lock in it is set. Those little plastic screws don't even touch my boot, hence my question - are the needed? What are they supposed to do?

What are those screws for? There’s nothing about them in the instructions.

I don't barefoot, but I ski behind a 196 and a 200 quite a bit. The 196 definitely has more spray. It really depends upon your speed and the load in the boat. I'd think that the 200 would be a great boat for your needs. While, both have great, amazing and awesome slalom wakes, I'd give the 200 a slight edge for longline. Past 28 it's just amazing. To go back to the title of this thread, the 200 definitely is all that.

@Jody_Seal Cold for sure, but absolutely beautiful. Have a lot of extended family in Kalispell/Flathead Lake area. I sure wish I could have a piece of that paradise right there! It is an absolutely perfect setting.

I guess the only thing left to do now is go ask everyone on Ball of Spray?

@MarkM - I have a Wiley's mid/low wrap rear toe mounted behind my Reflex. It works great. Call them up and tell them what you want. They are the best people and provide great service.

That is awesome is so many ways.

As someone who has skied at 260lbs - does that ski come in a 71”? A 69” would be great when you reach your weight loss goals, but I skied on a 71” Senate and it was what I needed. Just saying what I experienced.

@CollinSpradlin Good stuff! Love that photo of the mold. Way cool. Come on, sun, we need some warmth. It's time to start skiing again.

Good grief. My dad put the biggest outboard he could buy on a 18 foot Glastron in 1977, a 175HP Mercury Black Max. That motor was amazing. The ski wake - not so much. Wide, low and hard as a rock.

I squeezed my 4 year degree into 6-1/2 years and three different colleges/universities. :)

Went out with three friends today. 38 degree air. Water wasn’t warm. Oddly, we had the entire lake to ourselves! ?

I thought that the point John made here was really good. If you can consistently run a couple of passes and then a couple of buoys at the next pass, you can competitively water ski. I had never thought of it that way. The idea of a competition is scary to me. I like to go and watch other good skiers, but I don't consider myself good enough to ski in competitions (I don't do anything close to shortline). Maybe I need to rethink that.

I wear contacts skiing and have for years. I have never lost a contact skiing. But I sometimes do have issues and am going to try the bombers this year.

Are you going to stop using the clincher gloves? I’ve been using them for years and have never had a problem letting go, but could see it in the scenario you described, getting stuck in a loaded position like that (I think it’s happened to all of us).
