  1. Yesterday an urgent crew from the Santa Clara County Waterski Club (SCCWSC) had to launch a boat in very low water at the only tournament site in Si Valley, Norcal skiers know it as The Pond. It one of the oldest sites in NorCal. The drought situation shut off the water supply to Coyote Creek, which feeds the site. It shut down fast, the water level was dropping at an accelerated rate and we had to pull the course. There's a longer story how the club evaded shut down from the Anderson Dam retrofit project, but that's not for this post. So we had a reprieve and a great run from Fall thru Spring, a lot of skiing.

I am attaching photos- right after we happily installed Wally boat guides and 55's, the morning we pulled and after we pulled (most) of the course hardware and the crew.

We will need a huge rain season to recover from this, hope springs skiternal.

So for now, that's all folks

  2. We were on 2nd season with Wally buoys at gates and turn, as mentioned they are designed to have almost 0 psi in them, as alluded to above (a couple pumps) or a couple psi . They have been great ( we have Red) and completely hold their color in the CA sun. We just installed Wally boat guide and 55s 6 weeks ago, they have great visibility and are new so no road test results. We had adjusted our turns and gates so they sat in the water below the equator line. For those that use weight adjust courses like ours that is 3kg. I love them and indeed support is excellent shipping fast.
  3. Cost of shipping has really increased. I sold 4 old but desirable skis 2019 pre COVID and used USPS for continental US- the box has to be the minimum dimensions, certainly not weight for a blank ski, it was less than UPS or FedEx then. Anyway they all got there. I shipped a pair of really old jump with bindings skis I had back east ( I am in NorCal ) we split the cost but it was 30% of the sale price. So yes @Hallpass box length makes a big difference. I custom cut down a box once for that reason.

  4. So I am jumping in here late. I used standard 1.00 D handles for decades. Ok i'm an old guy. And when I skied a lot, dating back to M4 i would get some tendonitis . I think there is some medical evidence that fatter handles stress the ligaments less, I do not have it at hand. I have been skiing 1.092" Intow (aka Brenda) now for 3 years, and indeed I have large hands (XL gloves) and it is just not an issue for me now.

BTW sometimes I do ski a 1.00 handle just to mix it up- that is a big difference and in fact I might think of using the smaller diameter in tourneys just as I can get a great grip after skiing the 1.092 but you can feel the difference in tension in your arms. I used a 1.125 for a couple years before the 1.092.

On the 13" v 12" i have used 13" bent for a long time but I may go back to 12" i think it forces better handle control.

Some out there have said mix it up--- use larger and smaller in your training. Makes sense to me.

  5. Hello! Well it is warming up nicely and skiing more days a week here in NorCal. I am about 1 yr in on my white cuff reflex and XL Intuition liner on front and am very pleased with it. Now I just used the Aqua liner out of the box and the set up is the best I have ever had. What I am experiencing is FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) has anyone run it as is then molded it and if so what was the degree of improvement experienced? I am pretty sure there's some wisdom out there on this.
  6. Thanks again for the advice, I did get to the Dr and indeed have multiple actinic (aka solar) keratoses on my head and face, these are pre cancerous and are those small scaly sort of patches. I am taking a topical medication for 2 weeks and it seems to be working but my face is horribly red and blotchy, and I am supposed to limit exposure to UV which is easy to do right now as we have been having a series of storms here. But I hope to be able to reply to the 'roll call who is skiing thread' in Feb. Take care ballers and get this checked out.

  7. @VONMAN I need to give credit to Gordon R too, he guided me to correct grip during a visit to Ski Paradise in the late 90's, I did not do so till 01-02 timeframe, it helped my symmetry a lot. One of my ski partners is RFF skis with incorrect grip and always slams 2,4,6 ( @BG1 ), for him that's just how he skis. I would even maintain that those who ski at very high levels with 'incorrect' grip get it all done on their on-side (Jeff Rodgers for instance).
  8. So for me, I was nearsighted. I wore contacts and well I guess 20 years ago- they would get displaced and so on while skiing. The best thing I have done from a sports perspective was laser eye surgery. I did that around two decades ago. That resulted in 20/30 vision in my right (most decrepit) eye, ie I could see detail more than in my life heretofore. I went back to the Dr who did that last year and I still have that. If you are a candidate do the eye surgery.
