  1. I drilled out the rivets to take off the toe cap and then shortened the toe of the foot bed with a dermal to make it even with the liner.

I used to ski double vapors on a sequence plate but had to switch to Reflex after breaking my ankle on my front foot and now having a limited range of motion. Wanted to get back on the Vapor when the current model came out with a mechanical release but with the bungee cord on the upper I could easily reach my max range of motion before any force was transferred to the binding release. So I added snow ski buckles to the upper cuff to limit the flex of my front ankle. Works great. Still gives me a good amount of forward flex and much less lateral stiffness than the Reflex even after I cut down the inner and outer shell of the Reflex.

  2. Any ballers find a solution to having vertical play in the toe when using the Reflex release other than wrapping the front loop with tape or getting a machinist to grind the base of it down a few millimeters? I have extra parts so to make sure it's not operator error, I’ve tried moving the heal release forward, 2 different front loops, 2 different plates and 2 different 840 releases and have the same vertical play in every setup.

  3. @horton That would be hot sauce from that nights Taco Time burrito. Bachelor life...

@richfoster - @Zman - @skialex I was very fortunate that @brooks gave me an early sample of the lower shell to experiment with. Pretty easy modification/"hack job" if you have any skill with a Dremel and a utility blade.

I have never tried the HRT but feel my modified Vapor is a big upgrade from my R-style.

The lower shell is a much harder plastic and with the adjustability of the boa it does a prefect job of dialing in what ever amount of downward pressure you feel is needed to keep your foot connected to the ski with out any pressure points. The R-style applies more pressure to the sides of my foot when tightening for me.

I also prefer how the bottom of the Vapor is completely flat and how it screws into the plate at all four corners of the boot giving you zero side to side movement of the shell and a rock solid connection to the plate and ski. Like all Reflex boots the r-style is a converted roller blade boot and is no where close to being flat. I did heat mine up and flattened it out the best I could. However, it is still attached to the plate with one screw centered under the ball of your foot and one centered under the heal and the shell will roll left to right on the plate fairly easily. Not a ton but it does not have a rock solid connection like the Vapor.

To me it's the perfect setup if you like having the support behind your heel that a rear boot gives you but also want to have full side to side angulation of your ankle that a toe plate gives you.

  4. @horton I heard you modified your new rear Vapor boot to be similar to the Reflex R-style. If so would you please post a pic.

I’m trying to decide if I should cut out the sides and top of the toe piece and leave the foot bed of the toe like the R-style. The other thought is to drill out the rivets and remove the toe price of the boot completely which will remove the foot bed from the toe area and my toes would rest on the mounting plate.

I’m leaning towards cutting out the top and sides of the rear boot to keep the footbed like the R-style.

    All input welcome…

  5. @Horton I'm guessing it's a stretch but is there chance you will do a review of the Syndicate vs. new Vapor vs. the SuperShell 7.0? I would love to know your thoughts on differences of lateral stiffness between the three and if you notice much of a difference in the Vapor having a flat foot surface and the other two having toe ramp from the ball of the foot forward.
  6. The only thing I see that is different on the SuperShell 7.0 than my SuperShell 6.0 is the power strap is a little higher and the clasp side of the buckles are longer and spring loaded.

The real question I have about Reflex SuperShell's is why can't I find a pro who skis on one? They all seem to be skiing the Classic (black) Slalom Hard Shell with no carbon U base.

There is a great BOS thread ( https://www.ballofspray.com/forum#/discussion/19021/the-optimal-slalom-boot/p13 ) about modifications to make on hard shell boots make them ski better. In the thread @adamhcaldwell goes into great detail on what modifications he makes to get maximum performance and a great video of Andy Mapple explaining what modifications he made to his hard shell boots too. It's a interesting read IMO.

  7. I installed the CG Classic on my 19 Senate Pro Build. When I get the fin's DFT correct the fin is so far forward in the fin block the DFT adjustment screw will not even touch the back of the fin. The DFT screw just bottom's out against the inside of the fin block. Anyone else have this problem or am I special?
  8. Tore my left bicep tendon in my first tournament last Aug. Came into the 5 ball late with my eyes and the handle pointing directly at the ball. Bit off more than I could chew but held on with all I had then pop! Ended up having three surgeries in Sept and Oct on it. 1st was to reattach the tendon. 2nd was to remove the internal dissolvable stiches that my body rejected (stich abscess) when the incision opened up and spit out one big stich at 3 weeks post opt. The 3rd surgery was to redo the repair that was torn out when a female friend who I hadn’t seen for some time jumped in my arms for a hug late night at the tavern. Finally able to start rehab this week!
  9. First I'd like to thank Jac and all her crew for all their hard work last weekend putting on the INT at Crescent Bar Riverfest! From my prospective they worked their butts off to provide the best event possible with challenges they had no control over and produced one heck of a fun time!

Here's the deal how I understand it.

For events at Crescent Bar the course is setup in a channel that is normally a no wake zone that leads into the back side of the marina. I don't think this area normally gets much boat traffic and the channel has heavy milfoil in several places. I was told my the boat driver it was a challenge to put the course in due to the milfoil. The arms for the balls would get caught up in the milfoil. What seemed to add to the problem was the water level (PUD controlled) was on the low side for practice on Friday and noticeably lower for the event on Saturday. It seemed to me as the water level dropped the milfoil spread out and moved a few balls a bit out of place.
