Congratulations to Kirk on an excellent article . The easiest way to improve any organisation is to have open dialogue and a fully engaged membership.
Everyone quoted in your article is working hard for the sport we all love .
However A couple of the points In this article are not factual and in the interest of balance I'd like to comment .
Kuno does not arrive on site in a limousine , nor does he travel first class at skiers expense . I think the whole IWWF living the high life while all the atheletes suffer is exaggerated
Maybe his travel expenses per year were $70000 ? , I know for a fact he bounces from country to country working for the sport which amounts to a lot of hours of air travel , maybe this is excessive and should be addressed , probably he doesn't need to travel as much attend as many meetings however The elected officials of iwwf give their time freely and I am sure that kuno's 12 years at the head of our sport would of come at a huge personal cost in lost earnings , and time away from his family .
I currently represent Oceania on the world tournament council and the athletes have a strong voice , including a vote , tournament council members give their time freely and pay for their own drinks .
I am frustrated at time at the way we get bogged down on small details and how often we change rules , I'd rather see more time put into positive change , however all members of the TC are working hard for the sport .
All sport is generally run by the "grey hair brigade " and from the outside it looks like they don't have the athletes best interest at heart , waterskiing is not alone in this . The main reason these guys are in charge is the athletes are too busy being atheletes the parents of the athletes are too busy working to pay for the sport , so it's left to the retirees with the means to carry out the job . Maybe younger more energetic people would do a better job but how many seriously have the time while raising a family or starting a business .
Real change comes from within , get involved people , join your club or regional waterski committee , run an event , stand for the IWWF .
