  1. Yikes! Hopefully everyone is OK in the storm areas. We have snow today in Alberta, and then fingers crossed, what looks like a change in temperature that might help get the ice off the lakes in 2-3 weeks. Not holding my breath on a warm spring...
  2. My understanding is that the follow me mode on the mavic is on point too. I cant speak to skier judging but would think the analysis opportunities could be significant. Plus killer selfies while chilling on the boat.
  3. Shooting guns and waterskiing! It may not get any better than that. The whole snake thing freaks me out, but I would take managing them suckers for a longer ski season any day. 3 feet of ice, and below 0 still up here in Alberta :-(
  4. @Ausski I would say your best bet is Shalom Park in Edmonton. You can pay for rides there so check out their website http://www.shalompark.com/. The Canadian Open is there about the 3rd week of July so the week before will be tight for rides. I can't remember how early they start so it may be more of a mid day on thing.
  5. @Justin come down and ski Shalom with @david_quail and I at Shalom too if your flexible during the week. We usually get out once per week.
  6. How about a Moomba Outback? Simple work horse - add PP. I have found they ski very similar to if not better than many boats that have been mentioned in this thread. Plus they are very affordable. Being an owner of one and skiing with lot of guys in the 30 -36mph, and 15 to 35 off range most like my wake compared to the older (mid 2000's) Malibu, Prostar, and natique. All wakes have certain nuances...though. If you can go newer then it's a different story as other have noted too.
  7. @braindamage I agree with @Dirt as I've been a member and now for almost a year and completed two video training sessions with @twhisper. The personalized video analysis, along with the video library and member Q&A section have helped a ton.
  8. Found out I have a torn acl, rear leg, and bucket handle medial meniscus tear rear leg. In Canadia the docs are a little more passive. I'm 40 so holding off all surgery and doing phsyio and staying active. lots of balance stuff.. but I bike, run and do lots of intense works outs from the workout trainer app (good app for those looking for efficient hared minutes off fun). Have some arthritis in there and so my focus is more long term. Knee replacement likely. @garywilkinson I'd get a better understanding of the mobility of the new knee and if it aligns to waterskiing I may consider. I know the motion of the new joints not there for sports like hockey. My reason for holing off on surgery is speeding up the arthritis and removing meniscus which gets me closer to bone on bone which equals game over or new knee anyway. The advice I have appreciated the most is "don't treat the image treat the symptoms. You do surgery for pain and stability"....im ok here, but you sound like its getting towards the a decision point. Up here in the north lol, we obviously have a ton of hockey guys and so many regret rebuilding acl's and meniscus injuries once they are over 30 years old. Matt
  9. @aspski I know of a boat coming for sale in the Edmonton area. 2001 Response, open bow, 550 hours. Not sure on price yet. Have skied behind it a few times. I can put you in touch with the seller if your interested.
  10. I have really enjoyed my video sessions with Terry. Well worth the value plus the membership to his site for Q&A and the strategic video lessons he posts helps a ton.
  11. @Ckrueg you see this just posted by @ThePantsManCan http://www.ski-it-again.com/php/skiitagain.php?endless=summer&topic=Search&category=Boat_3Event&postid=44651
  12. Been following your journey and wishing you the best from North of the border - frozen Alberta.
  13. @HighAltitude Here is a response I received from the coach I use @twhisper. I ski on a Senate Alloy, 15 off trying to get regularly through 32mph. I asked about the right ski for me considering I will likely get to 34mph in the coming season. "I would say your fine on the ski, and in reality it’s usually not the ski holding most people back. The ski you have will definitely do the job for now. As you start getting into the faster speeds and feel that the ski is not as stable as maybe it should be then you might want to go with something a little narrower. What you’ll want to be aware of is how well does the tail of the ski hold in the water at the finish of the turns. At some point it will begin to slide and eventually blow out of the water. When this begins to happen more frequently then you like then it’s time for a ski built specifically for the faster speeds and shorter line lengths." This comment gave me some good perspective, but if you need a ski now vs wanting one the forum has provided some nice options.
  14. Very interesting topic. I am in Canada and our system is more passive than other countries when it comes to this type of surgery. Currently I am 40 and have what I recently found out is a torn ACL for likely the last 2 years. I have skied and been very active over this time frame, running, water skiing, working out and playing hockey. I know my physical condition has allowed me to do this. I am also dealing with a meniscus tear too which is more of a hindrance at this time. Everyone is different but I fortunately have very good stability --considering. Recovery from what I have learned is about 9-12 months for the ACL surgery (spoke with 3 surgeons). Athletes can get it done sooner (7 months or so), but for the average person it can be almost a year to full recovery depending on age. At this point I am focused on PT and staying active. My long term plan is to treat either the pain or instability, and currently I am good in both areas. That said I am not naïve to think I will not need some form of surgery down the road or even a knee replacement. Yes I am currently getting a DonJoy brace fitted as a few other non ACLers are using them for skiing both on the water and downhill. Keep us posted on your progress and I am happy to share mine should anyone feel it would help their decisions or strategy for dealing with such a common injury. Matt
  15. I like the idea of working it both ways...but if your looking to choose sooner than later it may likely be his plant foot for skateboarding or riding a scooter. My 7 year old son is not on a slalom ski yet, but tested as per above LFF and plants with his left when skateboarding and riding a scooter. I wonder how may skiers plant different on a skateboard, scooter or snowboard vs how they ski?
  16. Matt Fraser age 39. Actively skiing for 2 years, after being introduced to the sport back when I was 13, and then basically skiing 6 times since then up to the 2015 season. Living up in Edmonton Alberta is tough given the short season, however, I have a place now at a lake and ski at a local facility (Shalom Park home to Canadian Open) when I can. At this point the course is new to me so I am struggling to get more than a few balls at 30pmh -15. Pumped for this year as the light bulb went off for me after the lakes froze last fall. I know understand why some skiers are so much "faster" than me...so I look forward to working on what happens between the balls vs making a turn. This site has really helped with my winter study.
  17. I embarrassingly figured out that one core fundamental of skiing is what you do between the balls vs making turns...and I clued in after last season was over so a long winter in Canadia has been painful. Being somewhat athletic I am interested to take on the principles & technique good skiers use to execute between the balls. Racing the boat to the ball as one of the adams put it was a light bulb thread for me too. -15@34 would be great and a stretch to -22 at any speed.
