  1. A BIG +1 for not skiing with worn ropes. Skiing with a buddy’s rope at an alternate site in August. I’d brought a handle but not  my rope. He hooked it up . A couple passes later, came around 5 ball and was in full lean at centerline when it broke . Worst fall I’ve ever taken . A completely different type of fall. What’s weird is that as soon as it broke I knew what had happened- even before I hit the water . CHECK YOUR ROPES.

  2. Have to agree with @Horton. The comp boat market is a mature and already saturated market that as noted has seen other players leave over time. The sport itself is also very small. It would be foolish for a new brand to attempt to break in, and I can't imagine any organization capitalizing such a venture. The numbers simply are not there to support it.

  3. I'd strongly recommend an Accufloat floating course for a permanent or semi permanent application.  Extremely heavy duty. Coated stainless steel mainline, all PVC is heavy sched 40, heavy duty connectors, etc. These are not nearly as easy to install as other floating courses but that's due to heavy duty components. Those also help them stay super straight. Much easier compared to dealing with individual anchors etc, and can be of course removed if needed. I picked up one 5-6 years ago for only $300, quickly learned it was a bear to work with if planning in and out a lot as I was. Sold it and replaced with much easier poly line and 2" PVC with spring clips etc. Easy in and out even by myself using a pontoon. Your type of application will have a lot to do with options and costs. Yes a magic submersible course that appears with the touch of a button would be wonderful, but every design I've seen has a lot of moving parts and things that can go wrong and gives me maintenance nightmares.  Will be curious what path you take.

  4. @75Tique yes Lake Elmo changed ownership a couple years ago. I still buy bulk rope for course repairs from them and new owner last I connected seemed very open to wanting to be accommodating to folks. Definitely worth a call as I believe they still have handles and handle supplies on the website

  5. @ALPJr - what year? I have a  92Hydrodyne Comp, and the open bows I've seen have been the Grand Sport. Same hull. Not familiar with the Elite . Wakes on my Comp DD are fine, no complaints, nice and soft.  I ski other boats including 99 196 and 93 PS 190 and do not feel those wakes are noticeably better at all. Maybe slightly smaller at longer lines (15-22) but at 28 and shorter the Hydrodyne is great. Actually considerably less chine spray. Folks I pull that also ski tournaments have no complaints.   Hydrodyne made a great boat.

  6. Shop that rebuilt my GM 5.7 in my 92 Hydrodyne Comp when I had a gasket failure and hydrolock had me run VR1 straight 40wt for break in to seat the rings , then said fine to run full synthetic of my choice . It’s a roller cam engine.

  7. Just now, LOTW said:

The boat is getting older and oil is harder to find also.

Oil is harder to find? What am I missing? Stores are full of it. My boat is a 92 5.7 that I run full synthetic 5w30 in . Mobile 1, Valvoline, or Quaker State. All excellent . Don't think you could go wrong in your GT40 at all. Are you using something special?
