Over the last several years, I enjoyed free slalom skiing when the occasional opportunities to get on the water each summer became available. Now I have access to ski a course and am loving it, getting on the water during most summer weekends now. Unfortunately, I picked up a lot of bad ski habits from years of free skiing with no coaching. I ski on a HO Mach 1 that I picked up last summer unused with new Radar Vector bindings for $500 all-in. I have since replaced the rear boot with a toe-plate.
I feel like I'm in a rut at 28-30 mph, 15 off. Would really like to get my speed up and maybe shorten rope to 22 off by the end of the summer. My question is, would I benefit from a higher-end ski at this point or do I still have runway to improve with the Mach I? Also, I was told to remove the horizontal wing on the back, as the person coaching at the time said I would only benefit from it at higher speeds. Does this sound right? Any advice is appreciated.
