Hi Ballers! I have another great property for sale in San Marcos River Ranch. Located at 703 River Ranch Circle, this lot is a corner lot at the south end of the middle lakes. It's a great place to start your slalom run with nothing but glass water ahead! 703 River Ranch Circle is 1.65 acres, features an already completed high-end boathouse with storage and shower, driveway and parking areas and a man-made beach with partial shade thanks to a mature willow tree. It's priced competitively and ready for a skier or ski family to enjoy! Please contact me directly with any inquires. Thanks!

I skied in all 3 events in college tournaments and jump and slalom in summer tournaments in the 80s and 90s. Jump was by far my favorite event. It was the most exhilarating and addictive sport I had ever done. I suspect that there are many fewer jumpers and trickers now because there seems to be less emphasis on overall skiing, fewer manufacturers making jump skis and trick skis, fewer public jump ramps, etc. Personally I think all 3 events are very cool in their own ways.

Did Nicolas Le Forestier do a toe flip? Regardless, this new group of Poland , Hazelwood, Schaeffer and the kid that took overall at Moomba are hella impressive. The future looks bright.

@orlando76, yeah it was called the CXS or something along those lines. It had a center console helm. Not sure how it was marketed/purposed. Perhaps salt water tubing? ?
-
Remember when correct craft and mastercraft both made center console fishing boats?
-
Back in the 80s Glenn Thurlow jumped 202 feet at Moomba for a new world record. It was the first tournament jump over 200 feet. I guess it was record capable back then.
-
Unless that's a new Mastercraft slalom built by Kris and Bob. That would be cool!
-
I wonder when the world champion will have a ski sponsorship?
-
Thanks @jeffsurdej. If it were a snake, it'd bitten me. I was right there...
-
Does anyone know the cut for the next round in each event? I'm looking forward to the semis tonight!
-
no worries @JeffSurdej. It's all good fun!

@bracemaker honestly I think I was changing selected skiers the other day and didn't save my change. I chose Travers to anchor my slalom team. I'm sure he was pissed to go down at 38. Well, that's the Yarra! Great job by Asher though. Impressive performance! I'll be in better shape after some jump and trick scores get factored in.

I'm currently in last place for the B.O.S. conference. I can't believe I only selected two men's slalom skiers. I guess that will do it to you! ?
-
That's too bad. I've seen him jump too. He's a really good jumper and slalom skier. I read he's the nephew of the Ashers. How is he related to the great Sir Mike Hazelwood?

It would have been sweet to have Jaret and Freddy jumping in the same tournament again. I hope it can still happen this year!

I'm am honored to be listing for sale 128 Rustic River Road in San Marcos River Ranch. It is a 3.6 acre parcel with over 200 feet on the pristine and tranquil San Marcos River featuring mature trees and easy entry access to the water. Most of you are familiar with SMRR. It's a great place to train and a great place to live. This lot is new to the market and tucked away from the ski lakes, offering peace and quiet. Please contact me directly with any inquiries. Thanks!

I'll be in Katy, TX May 4th with my 7 yr old. Thanks @nautique and @Kelvin. We already look forward to it!

I think I recall reading an article about Sammy and Carl making 6 figures in the 80s when you combine their sponsorships with prize winnings.
-
@Horton hahaha! That's fair. Just a personal favorite skier. I liked his crank on 1, 3, 5.
-
I think this is now my top 5 list. I know that's one more than a Rushmore list but this is tough! 1. Mapple 2. BLP 3. KLP 4. Rodgers 5. Cox. That leaves Smith, Parrish and Asher on the outside. And imagine not considering Lucky, Carl, Thurley, some European skiers, etc.
-
I think I was in 8th grade then...reading Spray and World Waterskiing and idolizing these skiers. I skied on Champion Lake a few times back in the day. Great skiing conditions but super humid and oh yeah, don't stop into a fire ant mound!

That is the best D.O.C. episode yet. Its like sitting around the lake after a great day and debating who's the best and why. Yet you thoughtfully went back in time to 1980 and even 1970 in one case and had facts to back up your statements. Excellent.
I like the idea of these categories:
A. Top 5 Men's Slalom Skiers
B. Top 5 Women's Slalom Skiers
C. Top 5 Ski Design Influencers
D. Top 5 Men's Jumpers
E. Top 5 Women's Jumpers
F. Top 5 Trickers (both genders)
G. Top 5 Coaches
H. Top 5
Contributers/volunteers/promoters
I. Top advertisements/posters on to our teenage wall
This is a gold mine of debating, digging up memories and having fun debates/conversations.
Keep it up! Have some fun!

Speaking of underrated Overall Skiers keep your eyes open for Dylan Schaffer. 10k plus tricker, slaloms into 39 and jumps 190s/200. And he's young and getting better.

Since you're thinking from the 80s to now; some great slalom skiers you don't hear a lot about that come to mind include Kenny Auture, Brett Thurley, John McElyea, Jason Parades, Mark Crone, Simon Hill, Tyler Yeager. I think they've all been either top 20, top 10 or top 5. Cale Burdick and the guys at Denali are pretty amazing and not the biggest names these days.
