  1. I'm on my third season with my '92 PS190. I've been chipping away at improving it, I love the wake and like the boat. Things I'd like to do include adding Perfect Pass, a heater, a stereo, and having some some gel cracks repaired. Last night I skied behind a friends '99 205. First hard cut I had a big OTF. Man, that wake was like hitting a curb compared to my 190. I'm a 15' off 31/32 mph open water skier. Once I recomposed myself I completed my run and later another. Speeding up to 33 helped, but I was not able to cut through the wake the way I can on my 190. Certainly a significant factor here is my ability level. While we don't need a bigger boat (I'm either out to ski with a couple buddies or pulling kids on our 75 acre lake, so we don't load up for the day or encounter big water) I like the idea of having an open bow. I don't think I'd be happy with a 205. Would a 197 be more like my 190 as a slalom skier? Thinking about the money for any of these options, doing some more upgrades to my 190 and planning to keep it indefinitely seems like the best decision. Thoughts from those of you who have access to ski behind more boats than I do?
  2. I can't find a good pic of the D3 T-Factor lace locks, but I did just find these, which look really good: https://www.amazon.com/CWB-Boot-Lace-Lock-Replacement/dp/B003900FPS#customerReviews They look like they would be the right size locks to work on the rubber upper lace I have now, and I could replace the skinny lower lace with the one that comes with the kit. @Dockoelboto thanks for the suggestion, but I'm going to keep it simple and keep the cash in my pocket!
  3. Skied this week and left my binding looser than usual and was able to get it off no problem. Can't say I really noticed much difference while skiing, but there was a bit of chop so I was probably a bit off anyway. Thanks for the feedback, everyone.
  4. Please post when you plan to do it again @Jetsetr I'd love to try my first ever run through a course!
  5. I can get my foot out without loosening, but it's a battle... The boot is not so tight that it won't allow me to eject in a crash, but it's no fun to crank my foot out of. My prior ski was a Connolly and the cinch mechanisms were similar but had a larger nub on the release so it was easy to use with a glove on.
  6. Late last year I picked up a Carbon Omni with XMax Direct Connect bindings. The cinch mechanisms on the lace and bungee are a pain to release. No chance of releasing either with ski gloves on, so I sit in the water and do battle to get a glove off so I can then do battle with the binding trying to squeeze the tiny cinch on the lace and pull it loose, and use a fingernail to try to release the cinch on the bungee. It's seriously infuriating, a really poor design. Has anyone changed these pieces out?
  7. I enjoy working on my "classic." It really is simple enough that if you have some mechanical inclination and access to the internet you don't need the help of a shop. Everything you need is available--with expert advice to go with it--from SkiDIM and a few other retailers. Rolled over 800 hours on my '92 PS190 Labor Day weekend. Eyeing up PP and a heater for it.
  8. Hey @perfski I called to get some info today and Collin was super helpful answering my questions to help me confirm the right package for me. Just placed the order. Thanks. And now I anxiously wait...
  9. All, thanks for this thread. I just messaged about good deal on a ski on SIA and when I was about to pay for it had the "aha" moment after seeing the name Marty. Going to pass on this one, I think.
  10. Thanks @skialex I would change it but it’s been too long so the forum won’t let me do so.
  11. I've spent way too much time thinking about this... Skis I'm currently contemplating: -2018 V blank w/fin, use my current bindings $320 -Carbon Omni w/ double Animals $750 -Syndicate Omni w/ Double Animals $1,315 or Animal and RTP $1,215 -Used Carbon Omni with minor ding repaired, $300 plus a few bucks for shipping, need to confirm I can mount my Connelly RTP on it I know waiting and watching for more deals is probably a good idea, but I've blown pretty much a whole work day on this, and I am 100% commission... The 2018 V seems like a solid and budget friendly answer, allowing me to get back to work when I'm at my desk and putting extra funds to go to savings toward PP and heater. But, how often do we NEED a new ski, verses WANT one?
  12. I really would like to save the money to put toward PP and a heater for the boat if I can. I'm not confident in fixing this one, so I'm looking around at my options with budget in mind. I've still got my old O'Brien World Team in the garage and it will be put back on duty this week, but it's slow and not nearly as lively as my Connelly so I'm eager to find my replacement. This 2016 ski and binding package was only $400 last year, and the same package is a little less now. That's one option. There's a 2014 Carbon V with bindings on SIA for $450. I just spent some time reading about binding compatibility, and it looks like if I go with another Connelly or D3 I can use my Connolly bindings, but pretty much everything else would require new bindings. Please correct me if that's not the case. A couple of you have sent me messages with skis for sale. Thank you--any others with skis that may work for me please do send a message with info. I usually love researching and choosing stuff like this, but this time I'm just bummed I have to do it as I had other plans for my ski budget.
  13. Thanks @BMG73. I love this thing. Bought it a year ago and have been steadily chipping away at fixing it up and improving it.
  14. @brewski would you do that for this damage?
  15. Boat trailers are meant to carry boats on roads. What’s the issue? I tow back and forth to our cabin two or three times a month all season, which is about 250 miles round trip, plus 30 miles round trip when I go out locally. Agree with others about not letting trailer tires get more than four years old, and I grease the bearings twice a summer. Love my Sequoia as a tow rig and family hauler.
  16. Update, not good... ski looked fine when I looked it over after discovering the damage, removing the with, and checking that the fin was still flat. When I pulled it out of the bag to ski this morning the tip had delaminated. I’m at my cabin where we have poor service, so I’ll post a pic when I get home. So, I have a brand new wing I didn’t get around to installing, and I need a new ski. I really like this ski, and the boot and RTP work well for me too. Now I need to buy a new ski, which is a bummer as I’d rather put that money toward a heater and perfect pass. @teammalibu let me know what you have. Anybody else have a line on a good deal on a 67” ski? I’m 6’4” 180, open water 32 mph skier.
  17. Thank you for the feedback everyone! I removed the fin and confirmed it is still perfectly straight both by eye and placing it on a granite countertop. I reinstalled it and used a caliper to set it as close as I could to the specs I found in this thread (first to the specs in the first post, and then noticed that they were corrected below...). https://www.ballofspray.com/forum#/discussion/12744/connelly-carbon-v-settings Doing this reminded me of the ninja arts required to align the drive shaft on a direct drive inboard, though a bit less frustrating, thankfully. Going to give it a go without the wing and see how it feels. I can't find an online source for a Connolly wing. Any suggestions? I'd like to buy a metal one and the angle gauge @DangerBoy posted to try some adjustments and see what I can learn.
  18. Hola Ballers. Got some great turns in this weekend, but unfortunately my ski had an incident tonight... It was in its bag on the lawn next to the driveway and my wife drove over the end of the bag when she decided to drive her car on the lawn to get around my truck... Thankfully the ski looks fine and while I think the fin is still straight, it did get pushed up a little and the wing was broken. With the reading I’ve done on this site I've learned that fin changes have a significant impact on how a ski skis. I’m a 15 off open water skier. Planning to just take the broken wing off and adjust the depth of the fin to where I think it was, but that’s still going to be an estimate. I did not change anything out of the box on this ski and I really like it. ‘16 Connelly V. Any advice as to how I should approach adjusting the fin, and if I should replace the wing, where to source one? Thanks! P.S. The wife is the one who put the bag on the lawn, and feels terrible about it.
  19. Yes, just unscrew and disconnect the strap at the back and remove the bar in the front. Good idea to keep a screwdriver in the boat anyway.
  20. Thank you all for the feedback. @Bailey the break was between the v and the loop on the handle section. I've ordered the Masterline rope linked by @ski6jones, along with a Masterline handle and shock tube.
  21. Tonight my ski rope broke pulling my partner. I hit it and he made it about five feet before it snapped a foot in front of the handle. The rope recoiled and zinged my left arm, which didn't cause injury, but did sting for ten minutes. If it had shot a foot to the left, it would have hit my seven year old son in the face. It was a few years old but I don't ski as much as many of you, and it didn't show any fraying, certainly not in the spot it broke. I have considered buying a shock tube but it hasn't been on my list of boat stuff to spend money on. It is now. I'm an open water skier. I don't think I need to spend the money on a tournament quality rope. I do have large hands so a wide handle would be nice. Any recommendations for a good rope that is priced reasonably, and where to buy a shock tube? My seven year old started skiing last year and can ski long line if someone is in the water helping him stay stable before hitting it. This year he started wakeboarding. Tonight we had the boom on for my buddy's son to try skiing, and my son decided he wanted to ski again. Without telling me, he kicks off one of the skis and gives me this shit eating grin. Love it.
  22. I bought a '92 PS190 last year and love it. I'm a recreational slalom skier and the wake is fantastic. I've got the HO engine and powerslot, providing more then enough get up and go. I use the boat two ways--slalom skiing at a lake near home with either two buddies or one buddy and our kids (4 kids under 10), or at our cabin on a small lake, where we use it for skiing/tubing and are on shore if we aren't towing so we don't need the space for stuff. It works great for either scenario. If we were spending a day at the lake with another family it just wouldn't work due to space constraints. The PS195 was mentioned above. I regularly search the classifieds for this boat, and if a nice one shows up and is priced right I'm ready to pull the trigger on it, just to get a bit more space. It would also move me from a carb into EFI. Pretty much any ski boat is going to be a nice improvement from your Four Winns!
  23. I had one of these made into a canvas print for our cabin. It turned out great and I plan to do the same with the other two. Thanks @DangerBoy !
  24. Awesome! I'm in for all three. Reaching out through SIA.
