  2. One very cheap option would be to do flag slalom. Basically how it works, you set up two flags on the back of the boat with the goal to touch each flag 3 times in a given time frame. Eventually when he gets good at it, you can move the flags up higher on the boat to simulate cutting rope. Its free to download the manual for it, and only costs however much you want to spend on flags Here's a link to the resources for it:

You could also invest in a trick ski. They're hard to ride, but provide the instant feedback of progression as you learn new tricks

  3. Hello all!

I just got a reflex binding and plate for my trick ski. As it stands, the plate doesn't line up with any holes on my ski so I'm going to need to drill new ones. Before I go putting new holes in my ski, I was wondering if anyone had advice for placing my binding so I only have to do it once.

It's a 42" O'Brien Pro Trac from the 80s if that makes any difference. 2pd8euzledg9.jpg

  4. We Love College Waterski is hosting an unofficial virtual tournament leading up to the start of the fall Collegiate Season!

To enter, post a video of your set to instagram and tag @WeLoveCollegeWaterski

You can compete in slalom, trick, and jump. If you decide to enter more than one event, please post separate videos for each set!

    Post Rules, Regulations, and Scoring:

    * Slalom: please post your final complete pass as your "opener" followed by your attempt at your incomplete pass

    * Trick: You have one 20s pass to do as many tricks as you can (collegiate rules so no flip limits!). Please add a "declared trick run" as part of your post in order to make judging easier.

    * Jump: Scored based off of air time, you can post up to three jumps, and your cumulative air time will make up your total score. Ex. If you post three 1s jumps your final score is 3s.

This year alumni of all ages are eligible to ski! Depending on tournament participation alumni will either be on their own team, split into four teams based on their home collegiate region, or added to their previous school's roster

Thank you all, and good luck!

  5. Participation is up in Ohio. We made a big push to get collegiate skiers (M/W1) to tournaments and so far we've had a ton of people who don't normally come show out.

A big change that we made was how we advertise tournaments. It's not enough to just get the sanction on USAWS and assume people will know to sign up, we've been pushing on various social media platforms, and it helps that the Midwest AWSA has been doing weekly tournament schedules for the region

  6. I have another interview for anyone who's interested! For this conversation I talked to Jarad Meyer from Lake Lovers Club and Twin Lakes Cornfest! We talked all about his efforts to promote skiing, bringing the wider community together, and of course his waterski showcase coming up in August!

You can find a series of highlights on Instagram @WeLoveCollegeWaterski

  7. This whole thread makes me wonder, are cable systems a solution to future boat issues?

Two tower systems are relatively cheap compared to a new boat (up to $80k according to a quick Google search), don't require gas, and can run all day without needing a full boat crew.

You can also run cable systems indoors as demonstrated by the Belarusian national team this past winter

  8. Just wanted to update, I decided to go with a Stokes 3-Event Bag. It came in today and it looks great! I managed to fit all of my gear into the bag with a little Tetris, but otherwise no issues fitting everything, including some extra towels for interior padding.

Then the weigh-in was heartbreaking. It came in as a 70lb bag, definitely too much to try and fit everything in one bag to fly, but I'm looking forward to only needing one bag for tournaments and road trips!

  9. Announcing the Ohio Waterski Association Virtual Slalom League!

This summer the OWSA is looking to increase the amount of people on the water by hosting a virtual slalom league. Each week you can declare one set per week to be your submitted score (so be sure to run your opener!). At the end of each week your score will be ranked based on other skiers in your skill division! Based on that ranking you will earn "league points", the person with the most points at the end of the season wins bragging rights for the year!

The VSL will run starting from Memorial Day through the Ohio State Championships!

Eligibility: Members of the Ohio State Waterski Association -- you can become a member of the OWSA if you are a current resident, have skied as part of an Ohio based waterski team (example you are from Sacramento, but ski for Miami of Ohio), or have skied in an OWSA event within the past 5 years.

The league will use a week to week system for building score averages, so be sure to submit scores each week!

Divisions: ALL DIVISIONS USE ZERO BASE SCORING

    A-Tier: 95+ buoy average (6@36-32off+)

    B-Tier: 75-94 buoy average (3@36-15off -- 5@36-32off)

    C-Tier: 55-74 buoy average (1@30-15off -- 2@36-15off)

    D-Tier: Under 54 buoy average (6@28-15off)

Full rules and details will be sent out to all who decide to participate in the league!

  10. Hi all, I'm starting to look around to try and find a bag for all of my ski gear. My jumpers are 84" long, and I was wondering if it would be best to get a bag that's the same length, or maybe one that's slightly longer?

Ideally I'd like to be able to fit all of my gear into one place

    * jump -- skis, helmet, jumpsuit, sling, handle

    * slalom-- ski, comp vest, handle

    * trick -- two trick skis, handle

Sidenote, if anyone is looking to unload a 3-event bag, I'm potentially interested!

  11. Hello Ballers!

The OWSA is hosting a clinic for college aged skiers on Saturday, April 23rd! (generally M/W1). If you are based out of the state, and a college age skier (or know one and want to pass along the info), be sure to sign up!

The clinic will take place in St. Mary's, OH and run from sun up to sun down. If you have any questions I will be more than happy to to answer them!
