  1. Drive down to my buddy's house to pickup the boat from winter storage

A couple of days in the driveway to make sure all systems are go (might need a new steering cable)

Do a few sets of open water skiing (got some new bindings to evaluate)

Raise the course, clean off the buoys, check the complete system

Then daily 6:30 AM passes with hot coffee in the boat with plenty of friends

    Not a bad life

Uh, that is not close to being accurate.  Do wakes travel, sure.  But they are muted significantly over distance.  Is a cruise ship wake showing up on the gulf of mexico shores?  No.  Are 5 foot surf boat waves showing up at docks?  Not unless they're fairly close.

The example given was a wake boat out in the middle of the lake (1,000' in distance) and watching your docked boat rise and fall almost equal to the wave height generated. I remember doing a similar story problem in Calculus, but that was a long time ago and I only got a B in the class. I do know that our solution was to install rocks in front of our seawall. The initial wave approaching would still raise our pontoon 3-4 feet, but the waves never reached the seawall to amplify and bounce back. Problem solved.

This was just sent to me.  I hope the target is truly surf boats and not regular ski boats.

    Wake Sport Mode?

I'm on a private lake in MI and we've had two votes in recent years about limiting Wake/Surf boats. It's failed both times since the Association board uses similar, nefarious meanings and shore limits (as Rep. Julie Rogers).

At the last meeting, one resident pointed out that assigning a certain distance from shore doesn't change the wave energy reaching the shoreline. It just takes a bit longer from 500 feet compared to 150.

I get up early in the morning for smooth water, but I realize that we all share the same water on our All Sports Lake and there are other avenues to make everyone happy.

I think the realization by society is that electric vehicles are not a one size fits all proposition. the realization that procurement of the resources to manufacture electric vehicles is far nastier to the environment then that of fossil fuel development. fad? maybe more like a social push by elites to capitalize and become more powerful. the marine industry capitalizes on what the auto industry has to offer for marinization. costly electric vehicle's mean costly electric propulsion for the marine industry.

Excellent points. Ultimately, the free market will decide. Not Govt. agencies.

Ha, while waiting to pick up a waterski at oversize baggage claim at home in Detroit last week, the guy asked what I was looking for. No lie, this is about how it went:

    "a waterski in a case"

"is that different than a snow ski?"

"well.. yes.. one is used in a lake and one is used on a hill"

    "is the lake frozen?"

"no, it's liquid. You do it behind a boat"

After this I walked away and let a friend finish the conversation because I wasn't feeling especially people-y. Made for a good laugh.

    Love it.
Similar to my conversations when I'm on my BMW motorcycle and someone in a BMW says, "I didn't know they made bikes". And I'll reply, "I didn't know they made cars".

I’ve got pretty bad golfers elbow and tried a variety of treatments and techniques but it’s still pretty sore. Does anyone have any tips ? Anyone had any experience with the goode power vest and if you think it would help. Thanks a lot

I've been using a Power Vest for about five years and really love it. If the glove length is adjusted just right, you really don't know you're using it AND it takes a huge load off your arms, elbows and lower back when you engage the vest and want to just ski. Hard to explain the actual dynamics but while you're skiing I notice that I just need medium fingertip pressure to hold onto the rope and the pull is more of a feeling that you're getting pulled through the legs and hips and less of your arms. Hope that helps.

I do a lot of pull-ups and monkey bar movements, started to notice pain in my forearms/elbow, felt like the onset of tendinitis. Discovered that I never would stretch my forearm muscles, just jumped right into every workout. Now before I do anything at the gym I stretch those muscles by holding arms out and moving hands up/down and side to side to get the muscles and ligaments stretched out. Have not had a pain or issue since, I believe it is critical for that stretch before skiing too.

Good advice. I do pullups and chinups each day and was starting to have the same issue.

    1. Resolve the issue of lower back pain when doing multiple deep water starts each day.
      1. New workout routine should help. Zero lower back pain issues last year until last day at Ski school where the last start did me in.
    2. Lots of new people on the lake who want to ski our course, so make a point to interact with them in the Spring to get them involved.

And the fight begin!  Tree huggers neighbors want to get rid of motor boat on my lake and we have to get organize. Our lake is shallow and the course is in 9 to 13' of water. They claim we are stirring up the mud and putting back sediment and phosporous  bla bla bla...

Anyone knows of any studies on skiboat and how deep the prop wash can go ?

Tell the guy to breathe 25% less air a day. Make him do his part to reduce his CO emissions.

The hour meter on our 2009 Nautique 196 reached 999 this past week.  The hour meter is original and is a window on the larger tachometer.  Can this gauge be reset?  What are my other  options?  Have a separate hour meter unit installed on the motor?  Have a complete new gauge/tach installed?  The boat is a club boat with several drivers and users so it is important to keep track of the hours for oil changes and service intervals.

I have Faria gauges on my 2002 MB Sports and the LCD hour meter is also embedded in the tach.

Until it hit 1,000 hours, it only displayed three digits (999). I had the same question as you.

When it hit 1,000 hours, it displayed the fourth digit and and currently displays 1047. It should display the fourth digit once it rolls over.

  10. We skiied with a guy in S. Haven, MI last weekend who used a GPS puck mounted to the ski pole. He said it updates an app on his Iphone to show his actual path down the course, which he uses to determine if he's in tolerance.

I personally would like an aid that shows me my errors, vs. one that does the correcting for me. But that's just me......

  11. I got to ski twice a day for most of the summer. I feel very fortunate to live on a private lake with a course and more importantly, ski with a great group of friends who push each other. But there's Saturday morning's I'll take off when everyone else is skiing, to ride my motorcycle or escape into the woods with my dog. It gives me a physical rest and recharges the mental side.

after 29 years off, two complete knee replacements and some weight gain. I decided to give skiing a return.  I was once a tournament slalom skier. I put on some 72" O'brien jumpers and went for it. I just couldn't hang on.I  gave it a couple tries and before I got up the handle would just fly out of my hands. Any tricks or routines to get some strength back so I can ski again?

Pullups and chinups will keep your grip in slalom shape.

  13. For years we did the same thing. Raised our course manually (think, 2-3 boats pulling down the main line and attaching buoys), but eventually a fisherman cut our main line. Luckily, one of the neighbors caught him and we were able to collect damages and spent it on a new Wally Sinker course that we've had for five years. If someone snags it, there's still the potential to have it cut, but at least for us, raising and lowering the course (using a compressor, and leaving the buoys attached) saves a ton of time....and our backs and shoulders.
