  1. @UWSkier you weren’t lying. Wake was nice and flat, I could slice through like nothing. Didn’t take any water over the bow today.
  2. Update for you all, took the boat for a water test after checking it out on land and really liked it. Ski wake was awesome and boat was in great shape. Noticed a world of difference between our outback and the response. Carpet was just a little matted. Only issue was that the tracking fins whistle and the perfect pass cable seized over the winter. Owner will fix that for us, picking it up all in next week for 25k. PS: boat comes with a boom, if anyone is looking for a brand new BI b202 universal contour boom send me a message.
  3. 2005 Malibu response LXI popped up the other day so we jumped on it. Asking price is 27500 CAD which is obviously high. 420hr on the monsoon 340, comes with perfect pass, heater, and a 750lb ballast bag. Single axle trailer as well. Owner said they did hit a rock a few years ago but spent 16k to have the bottom refinished and the strut, rudder, driveshaft, prop, and wedge replaced. Incident occurred two years ago and everything has ran like it should since then. Other than that there’s some sun fade on the exterior and the carpets a little worn (as expected with these years). So basically I’m looking for general opinions on the boat, I’ve heard lots of good things about the model years between 03-06. We’re checking out the boat today, if it’s in good shape we were thinking around 23-24 is a reasonable price.
  4. @MISkier as nice as it is, with the CAD being at the value it is right now I don't know if we'd be able to swing it. But @UWSkier comment makes me wonder, at that price and with those features, why has no one snagged it?
  5. @UWSkier @Ski_Dad happened to see a 23 XTi get launched at our ski school site today. On shore that thing looks like a bus.
  6. Got presented with an opportunity to trade in our outback for either of these boats. Keep in mind we typically barefoot and slalom ski, we do occasionally wakeboard. Neither of these boats should touch the ski course as we’d use a J-craft or 94’ PS205. Prostar - 1999 - No hour meter (~700h) - Perfect pass (may not be functional) - 350hp V-8 (corvette LT1?) - One cracked seat - Tower w/speakers and 2 racks - 700lb ballast tank - Stored in boathouse and mechanic maintained - Outside is faded - No trailer - 15.6k CAD Malibu - 2002 - 500h - 350hp Indmar motor - Trailer - tower w/ racks and speakers - MLS (don’t know how many lbs) - Stored in boat lift. Looks to be in better condition than the PS - I believe it’s on the SV23 diamond hull - 29.9k CAD There aren’t any sunsetters nearby in the right condition for the right price. What do you guys think? I’d assume the XTi would have the better slalom wake but it also weighs more so kind of a washup. Would either of these be an improvement on the outback?
  7. @foxriverat didn’t get to ski behind it. Lake was way too choppy, drove 4 1/2hr to check it out so we weren’t about to make another trip. Drove at speed and it looked good so went off that.
  8. Went out for a few sets behind the new boat. Found that the wake was extremely stiff and it was absolutely launching me as I was cutting across. I was skiing at 34mph, not sure how much length I had off the line as I didn’t have our ski rope. I was just behind the rooster tail though. We had a spotter and driver in the boat with minimal extra weight. Lake was glass. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

@Calisdad57 did you ever experience stiffness in the slalom wake and the boat constantly being off balance? If so how did you remedy that? Took some big spills cutting across so far

    Moomba outback

So after everything a decision had been made. We’re pivking up an 02’ outback this Friday. 310 assault carbed, 400hr, mint condition and the owner took great care of it. Got a lot of suggestions for sslxi’s but for their listed price and the work needed on them I feel the Moomba was a better deal. This is our first ski boat, maybe an upgrade eventually. I’ve read good things about them and now I’m praying I can find a boom to do some short rope footing.
  12. @billb @aspski @vtjc do you guys have any idea how the slalom wake is on the sunsetter? Lxi would be ideal but there aren't too many kicking around with reasonable hours/good condition.
  13. Hey guys, was reading a thread on the Malibu crew and someone said all sunsetters had the diamond hull between 99-2002. Is this true? Here’s the link: https://www.themalibucrew.com/index.php?/forums/topic/23205-sunsetter-lx-lxi/ Only reason I’m asking is because we found one in pretty good shape and it’s got some extras. If the deal we have on the 02’ Moomba outback doesn’t work out we’re gonna go with that.
  14. @6balls located in Sudbury, ON. We’ve got a max budget of 24k CAD but obviously looking to spend as little as possible. Not sure about how the whole importing situation works but could be worth a shot.
  15. @6balls was expecting to hear that from someone. Also have two near identical sunsetter lxi’s in my sights. Boat A: -wedge -700hr -5.7L engine (not sure which model this makes it) -sub par interior -more than one owner, coming from a dealer Boat B: -wedge -1500hr -guy said 350hp engine but I know that’s not a thing, I think he’s mistaking it for 350cubic inches so that would make it the 310hp -mint interior -one owner Anyone else’s opinion on this would be great. Only reason I didn’t include these options in this thread was that I already listed 4 and was looking to get something newer than my previous boat. Switching from an I/O but I’ve always skied with a friends ‘94 205. Thanks in advance
  16. @MISkier @BraceMaker can you guys clarify what you mean when you mention the hook? Does this particular X7 model have it? And if so is it beneficial?
  17. @ALPJr you haven’t noticed any issues with the slalom wake and the wakeboard hull?
  18. @ScarletArrow I wish. Located in Northern Ontario, Canada. Also looking for an open bow
  19. Hey guys, so previous lines we had on boats didn’t work out so now we’re presented with a few new options. Again, wondering how these will be for slalom and if they’re going to be footable long line/short rope. So the current options are as follows: - 98’ PS205, 700hr, 310 motor - 02’ Moomba outback 21’, 500hr, 310 assault carb (don’t remember if it has the wake plate) - 03’ Mastercraft X7, wakeboard edition, 310 EFI , 245hr - 06’ tige 20i, 350hr, 315hp merc EFI Just looking for general opinions at this point. I have some knowledge on the PS205 already and I’m aware that it has the Xstar hull. Also been reading on the X7, I know it’s the same as the 197 but with a few options added on. Any opinions are appreciated. Right now I have the Moomba or tige at #1/2. Cheers
  20. Looking to get in on the Direct Drive boat market. Located in Ontario, got a budget of between 10-20k. Hit me with your offers, we’re big on slalom and footing
  21. @UWSkier probably a dumb question but when I go to take a look I should be able to tell which motor it is when I open up the hatch and look or by checking out the serial number right? Don’t want to end up with a carb.
  22. @UWSkier got in touch with the guy and he says it’s 350 fuel injected. Ever heard of that?
  23. @Wayne it’s the lxi so it has the diamond hull. What do you usually ski at? How was the wake?
  24. @powbmps it’s the LXi for sure, has the overhang at the back with the larger trunk. Person making the ad could have it wrong I guess, hopefully it’s the monsoon as I’ve heard plenty of good things
  25. @Nole_Skier @UWSkier @S1Pitts @Ski_Dad thanks guys. So keep in mind this is in CAD, it comes with the wedge and the ad says it’s got a 350hp motor, not sure if that makes it the monsoon or not. And it’s a 99, stored indoor through the winters. Was still thinking 22k is high considering the hours.
