@Spencer_Shultz Surrounding terrain looks flat as a pancake, no apparent watershed.
What “flat as a pancake and no apparent watershed.” Looks like after a night of rain.

@Spencer_Shultz what is going to be your water supply. Surrounding terrain looks flat as a pancake, no apparent watershed.
We’ve got a freshwater spring that flows in along with 250 acres that runs off into a creek that feeds the lake.

What is the location? Those trees will provide great protection.
We are exactly 20 minutes east of where the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals play. Trees have us super excited about the protection!

We did flood records and are clear of the flood plane. Lake runs NW/SE.

Few extra feet of depth is just another 5,000 yards of dirt to move.. no biggie 🙄
@Spencer_Shultz is your family doing a DIY dig or paying to have it done?
Super cool and looks like a great site.
Total material we are taking out is in the 140,000-150,000 CY range.
We are paying. Cannot say enough good thinks about our team at Kissick Construction.

Just curious, maybe this has already been answered, but what is your budget/projected cost for building your own ski lake?
My parents have that information and have been keeping a record of the receipts. Not sure where we are at currently. If you watched the video, the massive piles of dirt have enough value that they are going to significantly lower the dig cost.

It’s definitely overkill but I’ve always been a fan of how deeper lakes ski.

So cool. Is it just a perspective thing or is the lake going to be extended slightly beyond those 55s right at the end of the vid? Seems short, but again, can just be perspective.
Heck yeah man! We aren’t a one directional lake haha! Total length is going to be 2164’ and about 200-205’ wide in the course. We made sure that wherever you are on top of a ski, you have 8’ of water underneath you.

You ain’t kidding. From the Corp of engineers, to the city, the railroad, environmental agencies, we’ve dealt with them. Hopefully it absolutely rocks! We’ve had so many people provide information who have built these things and it’s all coming together.

It’s crazy to see that none of the new up and coming athletes have boat deals. Joel comes to mind…. If he’s so marketable you would think a brand would be all over it.
I think of Joel, Jaimee, Allie, Dane & more…..
Interesting to me.I think the manufacturers are more interested in partnering with entities that reach the broader market. By that, I mean people with ski schools.

8 buoy for sure. First set will confuse the heck out of most people but after that, it’s great.

What distance is appropriate for mini course buoys?

@Wish I’ll refrain from getting political but if you impact an area deemed as a wetland, it’s a nice hefty price tag. If my memory is correct, it’s like the price of a cash prize tournament entry fee for every foot of wetland impacted.

@swbca thanks for sharing. I was fortunate enough to spend 2 months skiing 2-3x a day with Wade back in 2014. The number of times we did the pointing drill still blows my mind ? It was a fun day when we finally moved to free skiing and linking turns together.

@UWSkier I have not! Maybe I need to try. If anything, the entire system has taught me patience. I’ve really learned to slow down my finish at the turn because if I finish to fast, I’m left with nothing but slack. This was my first full 35 with stargazer Zbox and I’m really proud of how patient I was out of 1 and 2 ball.

@Maxsend if you only use the boat a couple of weeks out of the year, do what @UWSkier is suggesting. It’s easy to knock stargazer with the z box because “it’s not ZO.” I totally get that.I skied only ZO from 2014-2020 and for the last 2 seasons I’ve only been skiing stargazer with Zbox aside from tournaments. Only time I can really feel a difference is 38off. Zbox is just slower to react than ZO at 36mph at that rope length.

Yeah, that’s cool and all but I heard they use 87 octane. For that reason, I am out.

Super solid handle guard! Thanks for rocking one @Horton ???

For those of you on semi-private water within a community that talks, I’ve got two words you need to use on a daily basis...wake enhancers.

@eyepeeler Table Rock is worth a tow.
Definitely recommend Little Cow Creek like @Ski2000 said. If it’s blown out, Big Cow Creek is right next to it and has plenty of room to free ski.

Gone two years next month ? Please use a handle guard.
So we are building a lake...

We’ve been pumping water out. The hose you see running across the lake has been sitting in our creek keeping it dry. Obviously the weather had other plans! So the plan is to build a temporary dam so they can finish up the dig. But in the mean time, the water in the lake is staying. Thank goodness we got the anchors in, surveyed and recessed.
I really don’t see wind playing much of a factor. Hopefully I’m right!
