  1. What's the ideal pass to send in for coaching? 1. Your best look at your hardest pass - to show the peak of what you're capable of. 2. A normal/bad look at your hardest pass - to show all the stuff you screw up when pushing the limit. 3. Your best look at your 2nd hardest pass - to show your overall best skiing form. 4. A normal/bad look at your 2nd hardest pass - to show all the stuff you screw even when not pushing the limit.
  2. @swbca - I'm not sure I agree. I reviewed video from someone's 15 Pro last week, and the results were disappointing. To reiterate a bit of the background info: ever since the iPhone 6S, Apple has had physical stabilization hardware on the rear camera that's great at reducing "regular" movements like someone's hand while holding a phone, but when there's high-frequency vibration (like on a pylon), it wigs out and the video gets super shaky. The selfie camera has not had this stabilization hardware and thus was great for pylon video. But I've come to learn that with the 14 Pro and the 15 Pro, Apple added the stabilization hardware to the selfie camera as well, so the selfie video is now also shaky on those models. For those models, Apple did change slightly the stabilization mechanism on the rear camera so it's not as bad as before, so if you have a 14/15 Pro, its rear camera will be better than its selfie camera, but as least in the video I saw of the 15 Pro, its rear camera stabilization is still a lot worse than the selfie camera on my 11 Pro. I am looking into solutions, but it's a challenge. Since the stabilization is physical hardware (magnets around the lens), there is no way for software to "turn it off." For reference, here's video with the Selfie camera on an 11 Pro, skier (not me) at 36mph/32off, 4K resolution at 60fps: https://youtu.be/_HKN0JI0K0Q?si=799JPZt0ZSn6Nq4C (make sure your quality settings on YouTube are set to highest). IMHO, that video looks fantastic. The 15 Pro video I saw was a lot shakier. @swbca, how does that compare to what you're getting? Can you upload some examples (at 4K60 to be consistent with my video)? And you're saying you got different results based on whether the phone was mounted with the camera on the inside (closer to pylon) or the outside (farther from pylon) of your Ski-Doc mount?? I have to be honest, I can think of no reason why that would affect the stabilization... but I guess anything is possible. 🤷‍♂️ I do know the 15 Pro video I saw was with the camera mounted on the inside towards the pylon. ___________ @MattP k, looking into it.
  3. @MattP - How recent were the missed sets? And can you double-check that you have the most recent version of the app? (find PylonCam Pro in the app store and make sure it says "Open" rather than "Update"). There was a bug similar to what you described but the 1.0.6 version update on May 31st should have fixed it. If it's still happened since you updated to 1.0.6, that's no good and I'll look into it!
  4. @Spock - So I experimented while taking "manually-recorded" video using the regular iPhone Camera app by manually setting the focus "on the skier" and I didn't really see a difference compared to just letting it auto-focus, so I didn't pursue adding manual focus capability to the app. If you test it and find otherwise though, let me know!
  5. Nautique dropping Travers is messed up. The skiers were being forced to ski in dangerous conditions and Jon was advocating for safety - that is not a "bad boy/selfish sports star" move, that's a responsible effort to benefit/protect everyone. And in terms of the alleged "gesture," it's worth remembering that Jon wears clinchers so he couldn't have raised his middle finger even if he wanted to. And the best proof he was justified in his frustration? Dane goes out after him and gets hurt 😑 It's funny, which skiers are sponsored by which boat manufacturer has almost no bearing on what boat I want. But the way Nautique has treated their skiers (Jacinta and Jon) makes me never want to buy a Nautique. Count me #TeamMasterCraft
  6. I'm gonna make some PylonCam Pro stickers, 'cause Cale Burdick said he'd put one on his ski! I'm deciding how many to order - Would anyone else want a sticker? I'd send 'em out free, just stick it somewhere nice and promote the app! Also, I released an update that makes "Auto-Record Enabled" the default when opening the app. 👍
  7. @KelliK - Yeah the one downside to the SkiDoc Orbit is it takes a while to get on and off. SkiDoc does make a simpler mount they call the "Classic Mount" (link) that looks like it would come on and off really easy. I'm not sure how it would perform in terms of stability/rope snap as compared to the Orbit, but it'd at least get the job done for your situation. There's also been a good bit of previous discussion about different mounts, including people making a cheap DIY version of the Classic Mount. I'd check back on these threads: ballofspray forums camera mounts - Google Search and probably best to continue on those rather than creating a new mount-focused discussion here. Hope that helps! Glad you like the app!
  8. Definitely gonna get this one on my ski boat image Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/skiboats_only/ - Killer color choices!
  9. @swbca hmm so I’ve had a couple requests on the thread and one in a private message to have the default be “Auto-Record Enabled“, so I may be in a can’t-please-everyone situation. So an informal test of where the majority sentiments lies: For any app users, would you prefer on app opening that it default to “Auto-Record Enabled” or to “Auto-Record Disabled”?
  10. @Jsh809 - Thanks! Have you tried the Main Rear camera? For most phones, Selfie is better, but people with specifically the 14 Pro or 15 Pro have been reporting the Rear camera is actually really stable now (and maybe even more stable than the selfie camera).
  11. @tbarile The first time you clicked on Auto-Record, did it prompt you for "Allow 'PylonCam Pro' to use your location?"? Location Services needs to be allowed in order for the app to track location/determine speed. It's supposed to prompt, but if it didn't or if you didn't select Allow, you can fix it by going to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. Find the PylonCam app in the list and click into it, and select either "While Using the App" or "Always." Let me know if that's not the issue, as I'm not sure why else it wouldn't trigger. And/or try deleting the app and reinstalling.
  12. @ColeGiacopuzzi Ah cool, I think you'll be quite happy with it! I've gotten several reports now that with the 14 Pro and 15 Pro, you actually can use the main rear camera (and possibly that it's now inverse and the selfie camera is the shaky one lol), so try both before deciding.
  13. @Mart Easiest and excellent solution is get a Ski-Doc Orbit, use your phone with a holder like this, and record using the PylonCam Pro app. @ColeGiacopuzzi - Are you using PylonCam Pro? What model iPhone? I ask just cause you're getting more shake than you should. Unless it's a 14 Pro or 15 Pro, I'm guessing that's the rear camera? You'll get much better stability using the selfie camera.
  14. @ironhorse @FishFreq I can assure the top minds in both the private and public sector are working on this as we speak. 😂 In the meantime, just released a new update: 1. The zoom setting now saves and reloads even if you completely close out of the app, as requested by @swbca and @Stathis Ventouris 2. The zoom indicator is now more legible (larger font, black text on white background) 3. Removed the "Flash" option from settings. I had put it in just cause it's an option on the native Camera app, but I can't think of any time someone would want to use this app with the camera light on.
  15. @braindamage 99.9% sure the issue is that you have selected for video mode HD120. This records in Full HD (1080p) at 120 frames per second. Apple defaults the playback of 120 fps videos to slo-mo. This is the same as if you go to you native Camera app and select the "Slo-Mo" mode and record a video. Slow motion playback is really the purpose of 120fps though, so if you're just watching back full speed you'd probably be better served at 60fps. You can still adjust where a 120fps video goes into slo-mo though (including not at all). Here's a video showing how.
  16. @Golfguy Hmm, are you able to adjust the zoom in the standard iPhone 'Camera' app? It's the same gesture there as in PylonCam. This isn't problem-specific, but first thing to always try for tech problems: Make sure your iOS is up-to-date, delete and reinstall the PylonCam app, and restart your phone.
  17. @KelliK - What speed trigger do you have the app set at? For 32mph skiing, it should be at a 30mph trigger at most, but try it down to 28mph or even lower if it's still cutting off video.
  18. For now, if you set a zoom in PylonCam, then go back to your home screen or another app but don't actually "close/quit" the PylonCam app (ie it's still in the background), it saves the zoom setting when you go back to PylonCam. PCP (experimenting with an acronym lol) doesn't do any Background App Refresh activities (it doesn't use data or battery or anything) when it's not active, so you could conceivably just never actually close the app and always have your zoom setting saved. But getting a "permanent" zoom lock is on my list of possible future upgrades as well!
  19. @swbca - The fact that the selfie camera is shaky and the rear camera is stable is exact opposite of what I'd expect, but I don't have access to a 14/15 Pro, and Apple did institute "Second-generation sensor-shift optical image stabilization" on the 14 Pro and 15 Pro (but not the regular 15), so maybe they finally got it figured out! (and then maybe moved the old, shaky optical stabilization to the selfie camera lol - they don't seem to say anything about stabilization with the selfie camera). If so, that's even better though because the main rear camera will definitely be higher quality than the selfie camera. That screenshot certainly looks nice, particularly given the zoom! @Shell - Just following up on the shakiness you experienced as compared to Wakeye. Just in case you hadn't seen, the stabilization has been fixed/improved in the latest update and it's quite smooth now! Version 1.0.4 - Give it another try and let me know!
  20. Fastest dismount I dun ever seen 😆 Hazlewood funny.mp4 "When you took a second set even though you told your wife you wouldn't." "When they told you the resident lake gator lives under the start dock."
  21. @Golfguy So like any other app, Apple is supposed to put up a Notification badge on your App Store icon, then you'd click into the App Store and see which apps have updates available, and you click to update them. I imagine you've done that before with other apps. For some reason, it seems like that's not happening with PylonCam Pro, so I just sent a support ticket this afternoon to Apple to sort it out. Maybe it's just on a 24-hour delay or something? BUT, in the meantime, if you go to the App Store and manually search for "PylonCam Pro" again, you should see a button that says "Update" instead of "Open", which if you click will get the most recent version onto your phone.
  22. @mike_mapple - The maximum setting is 40mph right now. I also recommend you set it to 2-4 mph below the speed you're skiing, to make sure it captures everything. ---- Ok, big update news! I just published a new version (1.0.4) that improves the image stabilization. Due to the un-changeable physical/hardware stabilization on the Rear camera (discussed above), in this new version Rear video will likely still be shakier than Selfie video, but compared to older versions of the app, the new-version Selfie video will now be more stable than the old-version Selfie video, and the new-version Rear video will now be more stable than the old-version Rear video.
