  1. Just a thought - Considering the amount of force that we put on our body’s during the pulling phase doesn’t good foot support make common sense. Isn’t all of that force really being point loaded on are feet?. I don’t know anything about weight lifting but I am pretty sure weight lifters don’t lift in there bare feet?  My D3 binding have what about 3/16†of flat padding.
  2. Thanks guys i will give them a shot. Just seems like after a weekend of skiing i come home with the bottom of my feet feeling a little sore, seems worse every year.
  3. Sorry I know this topic was covered in an old post but I couldn’t seem to find it. Some of you were using insoles in the bottom of your bindings for better support and comfort. Which one or brand works best?
  4. Picked up a 09? 65" Z7 last year in early Oct. got two sets in on it before my season ended. Before last weekends first ride of the year i re-set the fin to stock #s and and check the the binding placement. To my surprise a medium D3 Levage boot in the center hole is not 29" or stock. To get the stock measurment the front boot has to be all the way forward, screw in last or back hole.  1st pass with all stock # , out wide and early to one ball ski turns so fast and quick i hit one ball dead on on my way back towrords the wakes, splash. 2nd pass same results, 3rd pass same results at two ball 4th pass fell at one ball. Back to the dock ready to take up golf. Moved Both binding back one hole, center location befor my second set. Ran 8 pass through the course with my usual eary season bad habits. Question: is the binding placement that sensetive on this ski? Should i set the bindings back to 29 inches and change the fin settings to lift the front of the ski a bit so it not quit so agressive in the turn?     ÂÂ
  5. Mountain Biking, Picked up a Specialized Stump jumper last February, great work out, slow up hill, WFO down hill. Gave the P90X to the neighbor havent seen it sence.
  6. I switched from a 2006 66†X5 to a 65†z7. The z7 right out of the box felt more forgiving and did not seem to punish me as bad for my mistakes. I actually feel in my case the z7 will help me work and improve on my technique. Can’t comment on the Goode’s since I have never skied on one. I do know of a couple of skiers who were on Goode skis and switched to the z7 after a couple of demo rides.
  7. How about some BOS Lurker T shirts?
  8.  Have three sets in on my new 65" Z7, well 6 sets in if you count the demo ski. Went with Jdarwin #s on the low end of 6.860 / 2.496 /.730 and the wing in the middle hole at 7 degrees, binding med. D3 in the center hole. First two sets the ski felt better than my X5, but did not have the great off side turn I felt on the demo ski set up. Before my third set I got these #s from the D3 Rep. 6.87 /2.462 /.731 flat. Third set tried these new #s, ski felt similar but on the last pass the tail blew out on my onside turn. There was three weeks between the sets on the demo ski and when the new ski arrived. Best way to describe what I felt when I skied the on the demo ski was it felt like more of the ski or front bevel was in the water on my off side turn, just stood tall and the ski carved the turn all by its self. Best off side turns I have felt in years. I can't seem to dial that feeling in on the new ski. Question: Mounted my med. D3 bindings in the center hole, which I took to be stock. Tapping from the heel rubber it measures 28 13/16. Stock # for a 65" ski is 29". Doses 3/16 of an inch make a difference?
  9. Jdarwin - Thanks for the info, Doug the D3 rep called me back and said he would forward me the #s from the ski i demoed. I will post the #s that he gives me.ÂÂ
  10. Looking for #s on a 65" Z7, I see D3 updated there measurments in July, but was told the ski i demoed was not set to factory #. I am 150 lbs and getting half way into 28 off.
  11. Hey John, Yes it's SkiWest Donny and good guess where the advice came from. I won't be up there next weekend but will be around the following one and would love some help.
  12.  Having a problem with keeping my ski on edge during my toe side pre turn. I had an observer watching my last sets on Sunday he said I was not getting enough of the front of my ski in the water and my ski was kind a proposing or rolling back of edgenot staying set. His advice was to force my knees forward up over the ski and in towards the buoy. When I did this the ski stopped proposing and started to carve. The comment was better but need to be more on edge and and i was not finishing the turn. Question: I believe the observers advise was good and something I should work on but should I having to work that hard to keep the ski on edge. No problems on my heel side turn. Currant #s are 06 d3 X5 66.5"weight 150 lbs. Carbon Fin  .742 (heads) 6.831 (tips) 2.484 Foil 7 degrees and front D3 binding set at stock 28 15/16" Add a little length?
  13. John, Your ski review table is a great idea and I am looking forward to how the skis rate, maybe rate is not the right word, perform would be better. Here's my question I know your opener is at 28 off and you end your sets in the 38. With that I would assume a lot of your feed back and reviews on the skis are based on the shorter side of the rope lengths. I have here’d that some skis don’t really even come alive until 32, 35 off. With that thought in mind should your reviews also include how the skis perform at the longer line lengths. Remember there are some of us out here whose opener is 15 off hoping to finish the set in the 28 off range.ÂÂ
  14. Thanks John I think forgiving in my case is a key word. I need a ski that will let me work on my technique and not punish me to bad for my mistakes. As far as style goes if you are classified as a thrash then  I must be classified as a garage sale style. Thanks for your advice both on and off the water . Don S. (S.W.V skier)
  15. I am looking to get a new ski this season and yes I will DEMO Some skis. I would like to narrow the demo skis down to two or three, lets face it would be very hard to demo all the skis. This brings me to my question: After reviewing the ski test here are my Thoughts, the D3 Nomad, D3 X5, 9900SL, HO A1 and the Elite require a center stance and even sometimes a little tip pressure. This not to say that the Connelly Prophecy and the Radar RS-1 don't also work better with ones weight centered over the ski, but the Prophecy and the Rs-1 seem to be better for those of us who cant always keep our weight forward  and at times get a little to much weight on the back of the ski. So for a 34mph skier who is  working on keeping his hips up, weight centered, staying off that back foot and shooting to end this season running consistently through 28 off. It seems like the Prophecy and the RS-1 are a little more forgiving. Thoughts?
  16. John i agree with your answer it was were i was tying to go when i started this thread. Though it would be a very impractical method for measuring front foot location. We should use somthing like the front ankle bone as the measuring point for placement.ÂÂ
  17. Ok i agree that say 29 1/8" will remain a constant no matter if one is one hole forward or in the center hole. So now my question is were is the sweet spot by design suppose to be located ? under the front foot heel, under front foot ball, some where in between or some were between the front foot and the back foot? Is my thinking wrong. If you had two skiers on the same size ski and both were using stock settings, say 29 1/8". One skier had a size 8 foot / med. binding and the other had a size 10 foot and was using large bindings lets say. Unless the sweet spot is located under the front foots heel would not both skiers be placing there weigh in relation two the sweet spot in two differant location?
  18. I was asked this question the other day and i did not know the answer. Can one of you guys answer it for me. Question: Binding measurments are given from the back heel rubber of the front binding to the tail of the ski. If this is the correct method than wouldnt it not also make a differance on what size the bindings are. Example, i see postings all the time with ski size, fin measurments followed by a binding # like 29 1/4" or 29 1/8". Shouldnt the binding type and size allso be stated, or is the distance from the center hole to the rear heal the same on both med. and large bindings per say? Heres another why to look at it, if one could measure the location of weight placement on a given ski and length with a theoretical nutural skier stance. Would the center of the weigth placement / location be located inthe same place on the ski if the skier is say a size 8 foot/medium binding as to say a size 10 foot in a large binding? ÂÂ
  19. Ok pulled the old Tapperflex out of the garage. Ski seams OK, no wood delam. But the clear coating on the top front is peeling off for about 6". Its about the thickness of a credit card. Anybody now how to fix this, seems to flexable and to thick to be a varnish?
  20. Thanks T.W. thats a good idea, i was thinking along the same lines this past weekend. The only differance was attaching the 3' section to the PP switch and putting an addtional clevis on the other end to attach to the rope. Easy on and off. Ran some -28 this past weekend "Very ugly but felt good". Cant wait to run some -25 sets and see if i can smooth things out. Thanks DS
  21. Thanks for your input, i agree running -25's might help get me thru -28 faster. Looks like i will be ordering a new rope and give it a shot.
  22. I to treid the speed control method going from -100, -50, -25 ect. Seemed like a slow improvement and messed up my gate timing, Maybe just me. I ski every other weekend so time on the water is an issue. With the half loop method as a training techique who benifits more the skier like me who's opener is 15, then three passes at 22 working onform, which is improving ("THANKS JOHN") than hitting a wall at 28 4 ball. Or the skier that opens at 28 and skis thru 32? I did use the half loop method 4 or 5 seasons back and ended that season with my PB.
  23.  Was wondering what the pros and cons were with using a Progessor Training rope. With added loops at 18.5, 25, 30 and 33.5 dose this help with working on new line lengths. Wondering what your guys thougths are on this training technique?
  24. John Can you send me the info on the Malibu. Its time to put the old brendella to rest. djscontracing1@aol.com Thanks Don
  25. Had a slot fin on my 03 D3 and liked it over the stock fin. This year i started my season of with a 06 D3 X5 none stock fin. Had lots of in the boat coaching but just never felt good on my of side. I was strugling to run 28 off but than my technique needs a lot of work. I did a lot of tweeking but just but just kept runing 2 to 3 at 28 off. In mid july i pulled the fin box out of my old ski just to see what the slot fin would do on the 06 ski. That morning my 1st set was on the other fin and i skied my usual. Back at the dock i swiched out fin boxs and went back out with the slot fin. with the fin change i started of at 15 off and went throught 28 off. thinking maybe it was flook i ran 28 agian, at the in of my set i ran 4 28's offs back to back. Hers the problem that was mid july and due to work changes it was my last trip to the lake for the season. I dont know if the slot fin some how made up for my technique problems or what. All i can say is the ski worked for me better that set that day. Maybe it is because i weigth around 140lbs. and the 06 D3 is to stiff and just wont finish the turn on my off side. Maybe by using the slot fin it let the tail slide around a bit more on my off side leting me gain angle?ÂÂÂÂ
