  1. This is not a new idea.  There was a trailer company in Oklahoma doing this in the 90's.  They did not sell many so they discontinued them.  It definitely was more popular with the professional anglers.  I was considering one to use for promo purposes with a lot of marketing on the trailer but it was price prohibitive.  A marine dealer in central Arkansas may still have one rusting away out back.  He is a skier so maybe Rick will see this and comment.

  2. @HortonStill have 2 AM 33 skis.  Loved every ski that Andy ever made!  Also liked my Warp back in the day!  I like your fond memories of those skis.  Makes me want to go back and give my Mapples and Warp a rip!  Enjoyed your oddball video!  Off to Covington Ski Ranch for a set or two tomorrow😎.

So this makes no sense to me. If Ben’s score was for a National record, let’s say M3, which maybe it would have been, then his boat path would have been plotted. If the poohbahs that decide such things concluded that the boat path was out of tolerance, they would deny the record “as a record.” But the score would still stand. So based on what you guys have reported so far, if it was a record that was denied, it still would be a legit 10.25. Just like Jamie B’s in France.

is there more to the story?

@lpskier Hi John! This was a tie for the World Record, not National Men 3 record.  He was skiing in the open division at 58K.  Don't know what the "L" and "R" rules were back then, but now it would only go down as 3@-41 in the master scorebook due to Surepath.  There must have been a score recorded into 9.75 that day on the books somewhere. The record was not denied till a few weeks later. @Horton I agree about the Urban Legend.

@Alvin_Neff when you say away from the skier is that picking up slack as he went out the gates or disadvantaging him in the course?

it seems like  an unratified record. It deserves to stay on the list with the *

@Hortondefinitely not out the gates, I think it was at 4 ball where the boat was away from Ben making it even harder to complete the pass.

@Drago I have heard the story about Ben's 41 more than once but forget the details. If it was a clearly bad boat path then he should not be on the list. As I recall there was some deal about an unintentional double opt-up. Ben thought he was at 39 but was at 41 and just ran it or something like that. IDK. If someone wants to fill in the blanks I will remove Ben from the list.

As for the ZO list - I think Asher was first and am looking but not 100% sure that CP or Jamie did not run behind ZO before Asher. Poking around the old IWWF list I found the below scores and dates.

Asher ran 1/2 at 43 on 8/3/08. Looks like this was is first 41. This at the British Open Nationals. It seems like it should have been ZO but IDK

Jamie ran a 1.5 @ 43 on 07/08/07. I guess that would be PP? Also was in France 🙂

    Someone knows more....

@HortonI had conversations with Ben Favret and Chad Scott back in the day when this occurred.  They both confirmed to me that there was a boat path deviation away from the skier that nullified Ben’s record.  Maybe Ben will read this and correct me if I am missing anything else but this was why he was so upset that it was not approved.

  6. This video is awesome! I loved Eddie! What a true gentleman who was a giant in our waterski community! He will always have a special place in my heart. I was lucky to have him as a friend! He inspired us all with his positive attitude and waterski memories! His examples of over the top customer service was legendary. He touched so many skiers and leaves behind a wonderful legacy!
  7. I was also one of the 44 that correctly picked the podium and the score of 1@-43off. They put all our names in a random drawing so it was just luck of the draw. Sorry to burst your bubble about your stellar performance but congratulations on your luck of the draw!
  8. @horton Another Kidder fun fact according to Sammy. In the Redline Era, many pros were skiing on Kidder Redlines with tops made to look like their sponsors brands to remain nameless. Denny’s shapes were very popular and proven winners so it is possible that the Duvall Slalom also had some hidden Kidder shape influence. I was simply told that it was an EP Stilleto mold.
  9. @Horton Bryan Hero (Camille’s husband) did fund Duvall skis. It was later purchased by Wellington Sports. I am unclear if he actually purchased Kidder but Sammy did collaborate with Denny on the Venture. I helped Sammy in this area as a Rep, the mold of the slalom was an EP Stiletto. I think Denny retained the rights of the 7000 and ownership of Kidder past that era. I am not sure about the Kidder brand connection but Sammy and Denny had a long history. Maybe Sammy, Paul Crawford, or Denny will read this thread and clarify all the facts. The Duvall Brand was all about quality construction and performance, not necessarily new shapes.
  10. Gordon was such a sincere person who went out of his way to help waterskiers! He was an amazing leader, hard worker, and talented skier! Our hearts ache for his family! I will miss my friend of over 30 years! Our region and entire sport have lost another Giant!!
  11. I am so sad to hear about this tradgedy! Dave pushed our sport forward in many ways through his innovation and dedication! I especially enjoyed seeing him become an Overall National Competitor during the last several years. We shared many awesome moments on the Men 5 and Men 6 starting docks with him! My thoughts and prayers are with Dawn and his entire family! Our skiing community sends our deepest condolences!
  12. I was a Promo Team member for Correct Craft for over 27 years. I purchased 30 boats over the years. I assure you that it is not free. I did it as a contribution to the sport that I love. I was also very loyal to Correct Craft and supported many tournaments a year: Sometimes making a 20 hour round trip to pull Regionals and Nationals. The financial hardship that promo boat owners have to endure is real. There used to be more people that wanted to get involved with these programs. MasterCraft and Correct Craft used to have about 200 promo boats nationwide: Now only 30 for Correct Craft. This is definitely a sign of declining industry support related to the decline in waterskiing events and participation. People that continue to be promo team members should be recognized and appreciated: I would still be in the program today if there were a bit more appreciation for this thankless job. The new programs seem to be improving for the better, but this job of being a promo team member is always going to be a loss of time and money. I doubt that these programs will ever be a break even or profitable arrangement. Those dedicated few will always be making donations of time and money to support waterskiing and provide a sort of free advertising for the manufacturers that they represent. I hope that I am wrong, but it seems that the promo programs are on the way out. I see more and more tournaments pulled by the local club boats and less choices of boat manufacturers represented. Sorry to ramble on, but this is a subject dear to my heart. We have needed new solutions for many years. I will gladly pay more at each tournament if it will help this problem, but I think we are nearing extinction with the promo programs.
  13. I was so lucky to have had Andy Mapple as a dear friend! I miss his smile every day! I am a better person from his influence. Andy was an icon in water skiing and a superior human being! My heart is with Deena, Michael, and Elyssa on this day! His innovations and dedication to our sport will be remembered by the entire skiing community. Andy Mapple will always be the G.O.A.T.
