  1. @spartanskier10 I was there for 4 days over last weekend. After a slow start winter has hit the western ski areas. We had 3-8 inches of Utah's best every night. The cold had moved in and they had received about 3 feet during the 7 days prior to our arrival so there was no trace of an icy base. That weather pattern hasn't changed so you should have light fluffy frosting on a soft base... ego snow!
  2. Pretty cool, we got up early to check it out. Seemed like a small sacrifice in support of science and mathematics since last August we drove from So Cal to John Day, Oregon to see the solar eclipse. It was well worth the 32 hour round trip drive to be in the path of totality.
  3. Boat loyalty...original owner of 94 MC 205 - still love it... Also Malibu 2007 RLXi w/ZO owned since Fall 2007 (was Promo)... PB's generally behind 97-2002 Nautiques at club. If I was to get a newer boat would probably be a 2014 or newer Prostar just based on looks and some the features but all of the top boats would be fine.

Ski loyalty... I've been on Radar products since 2009 RS-1 double boots and a Senate... Upgraded about every 2 years for skis and 3years for boots. Here's why Radar is my go-to setup... zero transition or learning curve when I upgrade. I accurately set fin and boots to well documented stock settings and then ski my average in first set and add a few balls in the next couple of sets. I have ski partners on various other skis that spend the better part of the season trying to get a new ski or boots to work for them. Radar is a good fit for me I think because the family of skis are connected by a common philosophy of performance characteristics.

  4. At the end of the season in November I noticed the whistle on my 2017 Radar Lithium Senate... right about when one of my longtime ski partners said that my body position was consistently the best he'd seen for me.

The mechanism of the whistle could be explained in several ways but I'll go with the classic Lauren Bacall... “You know how to whistle, don't you? You just put your lips together, and blow.”

Happy New Year and I hope you all get plenty of that whistle sound in 2018!

  5. Grill Porn. 4 years old, used 2-4 times weekly year round. 6 main burners plus sear plus smoker plus infrared. Ready to cook for 2-20 people in less than 10 minutes with ease and confident predictable results. I use propane so I can keep cooking after the big earthquake or the zombie apocalypse. 90j23lww8z4q.jpg
  6. Where and why... Mammoth- always easy from So Cal; Deer Valley-33rd Anniversary; Park City/Snow Basin/Powder Mtn/Solitude- Annual Guys Trip; Purgatory- Family in Durango; Telluride- cause we're driving by on the way to Durango and it's awesome; Mt. Rose/Squaw- Friend just retired up there and needs help learning how to F-off on a full time basis. I'm here to help.
  7. +1 for a Weber gas grill. Fast uniform heat, great for searing, then lower temp and your steaks are killer. Ribs... some spicy rub then indirect heat low and slow at less than 225F with smoker box in action and 5 hours later your baby back ribs are falling off the bone pretty much unattended except maybe to add more wood chunks.
  8. @bdoe22796 I have a 2016 Vapor Lithium 67". Skied lots of sets but only a few at 34mph. I'm mid 60's and pretty much stick to 28 mph thru 32 mph. I've been on the 2017 Senate Lithium for a couple of months now and I'm keeping it. So I can make a college skier a killer deal before I put it on SIA this week. PM me or respond here if you are interested.
  9. Had a bone head friend who had an enclosed trailer built for 2 bone head jet skis. It cost 15 grand and was a royal PITA to launch and recover. I helped with that bone head nonsense one time then told him it wasn't worth the extra time and hassle to have his bone head jet skis available for use so he stopped coming to my place. I'm not sure why. If he had a 2018 ProStar I'd invite him back.
  10. @cacman I believe I see your problem with your 2. something clarification. There is a specific technique you must use to zero out the slot caliper to measure DFT. Here's some pictures to help.

    ki14vlugx6j8.jpg

So begin by sliding the slot all the way up to the the back of the fin, then slide the moving measurement head( with Display) all the way up to the very back of the fin also, then ZERO it out as in the first picture. Then move the measurement head to the back of the ski as in the second picture. hfja2mu8sk1o.jpg

That is the slot caliper technique to have it display a DFT measurement that is correct. As others have noted, your ski, caliper and technique will all cause some variation in your results. Find a method that you can use to get repeatable results. Cheers.

  11. @cacman Measure current DFT using your slot caliper HOWEVER use your regular measurement technique (I use the Mapple way which is Nose of caliper to measure with ski standing vertically in front of you with fin in yo face. Video is on the web) ...THEN measure again using the slot caliper technique. For me it's about .04 shorter when using the slot. So if spec is .765 I'll set at .761 with slot.
  12. @prettig when each boot has its own plate you just screw them directly to the ski. The Sequence plate instruction link you included in your post references hardware that is specific to the Sequence plate. Many Radar skiers have stopped using the neck washer configuration in either the front or the back or both and just screw the Sequence plate to the ski without them. There are other threads discussing this. Performance Ski & Surf has Radar Hardware which is nice.
  13. @Web the meaning of the word is "You fish on your side of the river, I'll fish on my side of the river, and nobody fishes in the middle". I believe it is the longest word in the Cherokee language. I was taught it by an school science teacher in 6th grade. So I taught it to my 2 girls when they were young. They were never quite sure it was real until they saw it used on an episode of Gillmore Girls. My credibility went way up after that.
