  1. Probably also depends on if your a light on the line, carry speed around the ball kind of skier. Or a stop the ski, crank a turn, and lean lock to the other side again! I doubt Andy and other pro's are the latter of the two.
  2. @oldmanskier I don't think anyone's manual recommends Shell Rotella, but many do recommend Penzoil Marine which has unobtainium in it so you can't find it. I used Shell Rotella, because it met all the requirements (I checked with Malibu and Indmar), and was available at the parts store down the road and the only one that met the requirements in 1 qt containers since we need 5 qts. Most 15W40 is for diesels that require gallons not qts, I know I have one. Oh and still waiting on info from the Shell on all this. She (my wife) did send the query to the team and did get some feedback from them, but had some clarification questions, and we have yet to get a final response. Once I do I will share.
  3. My wife works for Shell. I will write up the questions/concerns and see if she can get some answers for us.
  4. Can we get that in 1/4 speed so we can analyze the pre-release technique?
  5. @twhisper skied today after reading your post and thought about just those two statements you made. Been struggling for a while getting wide and still in control on my gate. Didn't try 35 but had some of the best 28s and 32s I have had I a while. Now if I can just remember to remember those. Thanks for being a help to all and yes I love watching that video over and over!
  6. Skied in 98f water. Just sucked the energy from you and feels like the ski had no speed. But take that over 40f water anytime. But as stated above in Houston we see over 90f water all summer. Surprised sometimes it isn't boiling out there.
  7. Our season never really ends here, maybe Jan/Feb might slow down or shutdown depending on the weather. But this "year" was a mixed bag. Had a late late start really and was not in shape for it due to various issues that kept me off the water, off the bike, and out of the gym. Only made one tournament but got into 35' all three rounds which was my best 3 round avg ever. Usually only would really get into 35 one maybe two rounds. Been running a lot of really nice 28's and 32's. Just can't seem to get anywhere at 35'. Is not like it feels bad, in fact feels like 32 at the start, nice gate/1 ball, early to 2, but by 3 ball I am so narrow it is over. Hoped to run it once this year, and since the year is not over I am still hopeful!
  8. Usually start at my hardest line 35' off sometimes 32' off if I want to warm up a bit and go up from there to 39.
  9. I had an 01 Malibu Response LX and we loved it. Skied great at all lengths and drove like a dream. The open bow is fine for one or two kids or one adult but I would never pull a skier with anyone up front. But our kids would ride up there for a cruise and loved it. Also pulled the seat out and would put an ice chest up there to free up floor space in the back when we were out on open water. We used to free ski a lot and even it can get tight. But with the trunk you can put your expensive skis in there and free up floor space and can easily work for a family of 4. We moved to a private lake and really don't hit the open waters much but upgraded to a 14 TXI for ZO. It is much bigger than anything we need, but wanted a newer boat with ZO for practice (I ski tournaments). My parents now have my 01 LX and they love it. I can't say enough good about it. If you want bigger though for open water family time, the later LXI or TXI are better choices for that, but they do come with a cost $$. The bow is set up better for riders up there. The 01 even with small kids you need watch yourself because it is easy to dip the bow with weight up there. Harder on the LXI or TXI but you still could if you were not attentive. I have skied a few of the SN's of that era too and they do ski nice also. I have to admit I am a Malibu fan myself, but never turned down a set behind a SN. Well ok I haven't turned down a set behind a lot of boats. For open water play and light course skiing I have heard people talk well about the sunsetters. I have never skied one or driven one so can't vouch for them. But have heard of people skiing both long and pretty short line behind them and they are a bit roomier. The old ones are probably more akin in size to a the TXI of today.
  10. @MarcusBrown! great work. I am challenged this year to make many tournaments. Probably only get to ski 2 or three and the first is a few weeks from now, but this sure made me miss the competition and the camaraderie found at tournaments. Thanks for your hard work to showcase these great sports!
  11. Looking forward to it! Now if only the hurricane force wind that is screwing up all our lakes would quit!
  12. On my 2001 Malibu Response I had to move the bimini mount to connect to the windshield because when pulling good jumpers they would hit it. Never pulled any short line skiers that actually hit it but did pull some into 38' that were pretty close. Plus when setting the skier down at the end of the lake it would always hit.
  13. @skihard ....your in Texas now and summer ends in January so you still have time to meet your goal!
  14. Hope it shows up sooner then expected and you can get back to PB's! BTW your friend/coach/pro was on the dock watching when that ski bucked me at Regionals on my opener so I can guess what he told you...."It is all the skis fault it is evil."
  15. Great THANKS!! Now I have that song stuck in my head and trying to come up with slalom ski lyrics for it! Let it go, Let it go, Counter rotate for the turn....
  16. I think everyone on the shore was counting each ball on his 38'. You could hear a chant 1, 2 ,3, 4 hold breath 5, 6 and then the roar of success from all. Was some very VERY impressive skiing!
  17. Yes it is! I have a new boat that I want to use!
  18. 2001response lx 775 hrs 2014 response txi 81 hrs
  19. I asked my wife if she is happy or not happy and her response was I am happy too.....wait how cold is it outside. We bought our first boat about 10 years ago and she had never driven a boat before. First time out had her drive, few days later had her pull me free skiing on the river, and that weekend trained her on the course. She didn't leave me so it worked out but we were still newly weds so think that helped.
  20. Santa brought us a 2014 Malibu Response TXI. Skied one pass Christmas evening because it took so long to get the buoys raised it got dark on us. But skied two sets behind it yesterday and couldn't be more happy. Skies and drives great and is beutiful and comfortable too.
  21. Just bought @thompjs boat and looking forward to getting on the water with it. But have to wait for the lake to drain down a bit. We had so much rain the course is under water and it is to cold to adjust it now. Guess it gives me time to get a good coat of wax on it. It's a beutiful boat though.
  22. Be ready for brutally honest coaching such as: 1: (deep water starts) Mom if you just quit letting go of the handle you will get up every time. It's pretty easy really, SO this time just don't let go ok? 2: (hardest pass) Dad if you just quit falling down you will run the pass. It's pretty easy really, SO this time just don't fall down ok? Yes my daughter did this to both of us (#1 to the wife, #2 to me) when she was younger and riding in the boat.
  23. Called PRP I had it done on two of my knee tendons for tendonitis. Worked great on one and cured it quickly. The second did help but didn't wipe it out, but did help alot. I could have gone in for a second round but never did. Watch out though most insurance doesn't cover it all but will cover some components.
  24. I ski year round but I am a wimp and go to a drysuit pretty quick and come out of it late. But honestly January and Feburuary is really the only 'iffy' months with cold, rain and wind. Usually take those off and let the body heal a bit.
  25. Wow I just got the PDF from HO a few weeks ago for the 2013 HO Fin/Boot Settings and for the A3 the have the settings listed as To Be announced for the 62" and 65".
