  1. Mitutoyo has the IP66/IP67 Coolant Proof Caliper which incorporates a new length measuring system that provides a protection level. So the calipers can be used even in environments where large amounts of cutting oils are being sprayed from various directions (only vernier calipers could be used before).

    • No need to wipe off water and oil from the main scale during use.

    • Built-in ABS (absolute) scale means that these calipers are ready to use immediately after power-on. The Mitutoyo Digimatic depth gage series 571 is an option and very easy to use.

  2. Looking forward to the Cal Pro-Am. Hopefully I can make it Friday afternoon and Sunday. Weather looks mild. Light wind. Hopefully the wind will stay calm for the firefighters. It has been very smoky from the Valley fire, which has burned a total of 67,000 acres and the Butte fire at 72,000 acres in Amador County. Prayers for the firefighters and those that have lost everything!

  3. Mark,

I had multi-level ACDF C3-4 & C6-7 April 2013. I had three of the best surgeons I could find, all agree with the procedure. I am pain free, didn't lose any mobility. If anything gained mobility. Recovery was easy, compared to the unbelievable chronic pain. Pain meds for a week. Aspen Collar for 60 days. Followed doctors recovery instructions. I too was told NOT to screw around. By almost everyone, how did these people know me?

This is Spine surgery and my 100% recovery was completely up to me.

I don't ski competitively, just a happy free skiing nut. If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer them. Stay positive and everything will be fine. God speed

  4. 2014 Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day we honor all of those who have sacrificed their lives in the defense of our liberty, our freedom and our country. The price they have paid could never be repaid, we thank them and remember them.

We also honor today those who are enlisted in the armed forces of these United States of America, who are now standing up for our common defense and have put themselves in harm’s way. We thank you for your willingness and courage.

This weekend take a moment, and count your blessing. Be safe.

  5. IMO

In Nor-Cal the snow pack on Friday was 12% of normal. Three years of below average rain/snow fall, will be very costly this summer. Agriculture is sure to suffer. Unless we get hammered with rain and snow the next couple of months.

Its not the smelt thats screwing up the water wars in the delta. It's pure greed and has been for 40 years.

Horton Thanks for the awesome site.

  6. Here’s my two cents from the world of race boats and the boat industrial in general. In 2007 resin tripled in price. The price of a blank drag tunnel hull, assuming you had a good mold and tooling went from around $4500 to $11000.

You must have a solid business plan. You must do a full market analyses. Your research and study of hydrodynamics takes time and instrumentation, which is extremely expensive. Even after spending all this money, there are inconsistencies in the performance of boats. In regards to racing boats, I was primarily concerned with the aspects of drag. You must improve performance, fuel consumption! The two most significant kinds of hydrodynamic drag are friction and wave drag. Which means that you must be very precise with your hydrodynamic assumptions? Don’t let anyone tell you can’t do it. You will need to work extremely hard and stick with it. I would suggest talking to Mike Brindelia. Visit the builders and observe. Boat Racing Facts.com has a huge following. A lot of those folks have built boats and would be more than happy to answer your general questions. I know it’s a different venue, but boat building is boat building.

  7. Happy Father's Day

    A Dad is a person

    who is loving and kind,

    And often he knows

what you have on your mind.

    He's someone who listens,

    suggests, and defends.

    A dad can be one

    of your very best friends!

    He's proud of your triumphs,

    but when things go wrong,

    A dad can be patient

    and helpful and strong

    In all that you do,

    a dad's love plays a part.

There's always a place for him

    deep in your heart.

    And each year that passes,

    you're even more glad,

    More grateful and proud

just to call him your dad!

    Thank you, Dad...

    for listening and caring,

    for giving and sharing,

but, especially, for just being you!

    Happy Father's Day

  8. You should have been there.

Late last year a bass boat cut us off. I was pulling my 9 daughter wake boarding. When my daughter was done. I was little pissed. We filled all our ballest tanks.  I grabbed my wake surf board, told my wife make a pass 40 or so yards from the bass boat. At seven MPH a wall of water rolled onto these assho!$#. Knock one to his knees and the other almost fell out of his seat. Family and friends laughed so hard, that we made a second pass. The bass boat left our little cove and we all went back to free skiing & boarding. My friends still laugh about it. Never did see that boat again in the south fork.

  9. "I am responsible. Although I may not be able to prevent the worst from happening, I am responsible for my attitude toward the inevitable misfortunes that life brings. Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my injury, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have - life itself."

You will ski soon. Take care of the shoulder.
